mods , there is nothing shady about my build. the cfc/rcmp are involved and are in the process of approving the design.


decided to let one of my projects out of the bag. semi auto open bolt sten. homemade of course.

not all the details are being posted yet but these are a few of the design ideas.

this design has not been approved yet, so don't copy it, or expect a frt # anytime soon. the cfc / rcmp will take there time in approving the design.

Design changes for Semi auto.

1.trip lever button welded in “semi auto” only position
2.receiver cut out for trip lever not milled out large enough to allow trip lever into auto position.
3.Bolt welded so no auto fire position excises. Bolt reduced in diameter which makes it a non standard size. To small for a regular sten,
4.tube of gun made of thick walled tubing, as not to allow a standard bolt to be installed. Only my bolt which has been reduced in diameter can enter the tube. (stock is .063” , my tube will be made from .094”)
5.The combination of bullet 1 2 & 3 insure that the trip lever reset the sear each time the gun is discharged. Therefor one pull of the trigger will result in one round being discharged. There is no way to “easily modify” this gun to produce auto fire.
6.Trip lever will be lengthened to accommodate thicker tube wall.
7.Sear pin and trigger pin will be welded in place so that no internals can be changed/ or easily modified.

the project as it sits today. awaiting rcmp approval. the barrel being used is a flame cut rebuild of Stencollectors.

I think you might have taken a picture of the wrong end of your bolt, It's the other end that has the sear catch.
 
looks good

the dia change of the tube and the bolt IS the way to go

they missing sear cut is also good idea

keep us posted and advise when you submit it uim curious to how long they will take to test it

A bolt for a Mk. V gun has a cut at its front end to clear the disconnector in auto fire. Filling that cut would be necessary, in addition to creating a full width bent, to achieve what hedgehog is trying to accomplish.

how did you register the receiver , with your design not being approved as of yet. id like to do the same.

did you take yours to the range yet? is that allowed. im guessing if its registered and your have an att your golden?

well so for its not "in" yet. just the design ideas. really i havent even made a firearm yet. no receiver. but im more then willing to send it in any time they like.

THAT it is registered is probably more important than WHAT it is registered as. The FRT doesn't have all the answers, so "Homemade, short barrel, 9mm, magazine-fed, semi-automatic rifle" is probably an appropriate description.
 
Open bolt semi auto Stens are being made and sold. Obviously they are registered and transferable. The design must obviously be acceptable to the RCMP. They would never issue a registration certificate for an open bolt semi auto newly made Sten, and allow transfer, if the design was unacceptable to them. Instead of reinventing the wheel, why not just go with what is already in the system?

Very good point Tiriaq .. but as you know, many people would rather "re-invent the wheel" instead of actually using the one already available. It's the quest some humans have to be the best, bigger, badder, etc. Tinkering with someone else's idea to make it their own in some way is the goal. I am just a wheel USER! .. I am quite happy to use whatever these individuals come up with!!

Attempting to improve is a a good thing, especially if the idea works. If it were not for creative minds we would have nothing but muzzle loaders.
