Semi-auto opinions?

If you are not loading up 5 times a day the mag on a BAR is fine. The BAR is a low recoil, surprisingly accurate firearm. Perhaps heavier than some bolt action choices but not much different from a Rem. semi. Light years better. Also available in some great calibers.

I find Remingtons to be good and reliable. I would recomend a Remington 742 in .308 win. (and as luck would have it, I just happen to have one posted in EE :D )

Is a type II 300 win mag considered a longtrack? I have found a very nice one that might have my name on it. Thanks everyone for the input.

BAR Detachable Magazine (got some interest so I'll post instead of PM)

*Must be a Long-trac or Shortrac. Same receiver set-up as Winchester SXR

Long action detachable Floor plate for a Winchester SXR # U3177046F4

Short Action detachable Floor plate for a Winchester SXR #U3177043F4

Must come with Spring (#B317620801) and pin (B317671002), which they should.

The floor plates are $15 each US, but to get them you have to go through Western Gun parts in AB and they will charge you $80 for two shipped. You use your existing metal box mag with the floorplate. I epoxied the box mag to the floorplate because sometimes they come apart in your pocket. The other option is to buy a Winchester SXR detachable mag for $100.

Remove the front forestock. Punch out the pin holding the hinged floorplate in place. Remove hinge floor plate. Re-install pin. re-install forestock. Very Easy.

I have done this conversion a few times, only with long actions. But the same Winchester Tech told me the part numbers for the short action floorplate and they should be right.

You can also drill out the stopper (5/16 and de-burr) on the mag so it will hold 5 rounds instead of 4. This is only good for open bolt reloads, as there is no extra room to insert a full mag of 5 into a closed bolt.

T Cart

In an attempt to update our equipment we upgraded to our 47 from a 46 two years ago. The 46 went to the Kakabaka Falls area. Great airplanes. So we stay on the topic of firearms I carry a nice Savage combo 22/20g camper over the bush for those unplanned stayovers.
Cheers

Nice plane by the way!
I have a 46.

No, the Mark II or Type II is like the old style and not a longtrac. Too bad.

They came with a detachable mag as a prototype, but I've never seen one anywhere.

Captonion I agree with your statement, that whatever some people have at the time, is the best.Wondering what you would choose,or what you feel is the best of the bunch?I have lots to choose from.

Remington is junk these days. There 750's are so badly put together its almost sickening. Absolutely NO ATTENTION TO DETAIL. Rough edge's, sloppy tolerances etc etc.

The BAR's are ahead of the Remy's. But honestly not much. They still feel fairly cheap to me.

The best Semi Auto Hunting Riffle available today is the Benelli R1. Bar None. I owned a R1 Comfortech in 300wsm. VERY NICE RIFFLE!

I opted to sell it to fund my RFB purchase. But between the three, BAR, 750, R1. The R1 wins hands down. Just pick them up. You'l agree I assure you.

However the price reflects this as well.

Well I have zero rough edges and zero tolerance problems on all three of my 750 Woodsmaster's. Don't know where your getting your info from. Mine all function perfect are well built and very accurate. Fit and finish is excellent, not to mention Remington has the smallest sleakest design semi's for hunting rigs. I considered an R-1 but was put off by their pencil thin barrels, and over-price tag. Guntest.com, May 2007 tested the BAR vs 750 vs R-1, low and behold the 750 came out on top. The only regret I have of the 750's is I wished I had more.:D

I own/have owned a few BARs...I prefer the all steel safari models best..

I've sighted in three R1s, a Merkel SR1, and, Verney-Carron 300 Win Mag...Out of them all I liked the Verney-Carron...I handled a Sauer 303, and like everything about it..Would love to play with one further before I bought one though...

Captonion

What one has the best magazine system? I guess, by best I mean, best for me would be5 rounds, fully detachable, and easy to snap in and out. 30-06

So far I've tried

Benelli R1
BAR Safari
BAR LongTrac
H&K 940
Remington 7400

my first choice would be the Browning, I got no problem with the DM, but if you do, go with the Rem 4, 7400. had a brand new 7400 in aught 6, had no problems what so ever, just don't be shy! slam that sucka shut! don't be a timid candy ass with it!

A few thoughts on the sporter half stock Voere 2185 in 30-06: externally adjustable trigger (nice)
A safety that copies the M-14, M-1 Garand (nice)
A short and I believe a match tolerance chamber, which does not feed many regular North American big name brands 100%, except for Federal! (hhhmmm)
A chamber that does not like bullet weight of over 168 grains (hhmmm)
Probably the softest recoiling semi-auto rifle I've ever owned with factory Federal ammo of 150 grain or less, most likely due to it's gigantic & heavy bolt (okay)
After three shots the barrel heats up very quickly & starts to vertically string the following shots, but these first three quick shots, can be pretty darn accurate! (nice)

This rifle does function well, with it's ammunition handloaded to M-1 Garand pressures, while keeping the above mentioned bullet weight in mind (hhhmmm)

This rifle brand new is outrageously exspensive & I got a great deal on mine. Otherwise I would have looked for a less exspensive new rifle. And all those funky features were unknown to myself at the time I bought it from the dealer. (hhhmm)

This model of rifle is available in Canada. Thought I'd share my personal observations here.

Cheers!

Do any hold a full 5 rounds? (without mods)

The Voere 2185 comes with a flush 2 shot or 5 shot magazine option. The two shot magazine can be easily converted to 3. The plastic filler is just glued in, and easily removed with just needlenose pliers, after disassembling the magazine.
This 5 shot magazine looks visually identical to the 5 shot factory mag for the bolt action Sig Sauer 202 rifle in the standard chamberings.
(25-06, 270 and 30-06) I am wondering if they are interchangeable??
