Semi Auto Pistol Recommendation

Thought a flying bullet may across in front your face would cause some kind of distraction or possible get hit by the hot case.

...Pistols. They're talking about pistols. Right or left is irrelevant; if you're shooting correctly, the case should not hit you in the face. (Except for that time I decided to see how low of a charge I could go with 9mm, and the cases start ejecting lazily backwards. Lol)

Edit: Also, I assume you meant spent casing. If you have bullets flying past your face when you're shooting, you have much bigger problems than ejection direction...

I shoot both right and left handed. I’ve competed with many left handed shooters. As long as you’re holding the gun properly with arms extended, it’s very difficult to be hit by brass from the ejection port. The brass may hit the guy standing on your right, but not you.

Scotty454 beat me to it...

You right.

Maybe I was assuming I might not hold the pistol using both hands with arm extended. Say only use left hand hold it, and your body face towards to the target, just standing like hold two guns on each hand, but only have gun on your left. It's a rare case scenario for most people, but I just want to make sure it won't bother me if I start shooting using my left hand only.

Correct. Lease likely the car will hit the shooter even left handed. I am just not 100% sure about if shooting use left hand only, not holding the gun using both hands, I guess the case should fly across in front of me from left to right.

I am not doing any competition shooting by the way.

You mean shooting akimbo like on Call of Duty?
If you shoot your left gun away from your body, then you may get hit by brass, depending on your gun’s ejection pattern. Most people hold the gun in front. And whether it bothers you or not depends on you. If it goes down your shirt, then it may sting a little.

Depending on what range you belong to, people may look at you funny when you open up with a gun in each hand!

I know it may sound kind of wired, I am just considering any possibilities when shoot with the gun.

Apart from 1911 like pistols, any other brand or specific model is worth to add into the pistol collection?

Come on guys when you shoot IDPA you often have Standards requiring left hand shooting. I have never been hit in the face with brass...never nor have I seen a shooter get hit by brass in the face. At one time there were companies making left handed 1911's. Dlask once did others in the states as well. If you really think it is a real problem buy a revolver.

Nothing wrong with the Shadow 2 or Shadow 1. Both excellent and will likely outshoot you.

But, by your post, it sounds like you’re looking for slightly more unusual guns. If you got the coin, get a HK P7 series or a SIG P210.

If you’re still hooked on the Beretta, get the Wilson Combat variant. For the SIG P226, get the Mk.25. For an HK, get the Mk.23 ( its a .45 but it will get people talking at the range).

The HK MK23 is the one used in movie tears of sun with a suppressor right? How about HK47? Actually I am looking for .45 ACP pistol as well, thought about Sig P227, but someone recommended FNH FNX-45 to me, not sure how good is that one. Any suggestions?

Thanks, it was just a unusual scenarios popped up in my mind.

Any good semi auto pistol for range shooting and down casual practice for competition? I only have Shadow 2 in my mind for now for the 9mm. Unsure about 45acp or any other calibers yet.

I see it happen every few weeks, including last night. Usually with new shooters that have a poor grip.

In any event, it isn't an issue to be concerned about.

OP: The Shadow 2 is an excellent gun, that will perform very well at IPSC matches, as well as basic range shooting. The only downside is that it isn't eligible to play in IDPA, due to its heavy weight, if you were thinking about that. If IDPA interests you, then you will need another gun.

What's wrong with a Shadow 1 ??

Thank you.

That was just a thought probably from movies in my mind, not going to shoot like that way for sure.

I doubt I would be in any official competition, just for normal range shooting and maybe some competition range shooting for practicing my shooting skills only. But good to know that I need a lighter gun for IDPA. Probably the Beretta would do the job.

If you have deep pockets some of the Sig X5's are lovely guns. (The X5 All Around for example)

Thanks for your suggestion, but mine is not that deep.

I still consider the Shadow 2 is a normal pistol but optimized for competition purpose to me, so I can mainly stay in range for shooting and casually go to do some fun stuff to upskills.

Sig X5 is also a high end competition capable pistol from my understanding, the extra dollars I put on the gun won't make that much difference on me comparing to the ones around $1000-$1500 range.

What's wrong with a Shadow 1 ??

This! Gun works for both sports. It was the only gun to buy for IPSC Production until guys paid $1,300 for a Shadow2. IPSC in 2019 has amended the Production rules to allow striker fired pistols shoot with a 3.5lb(?) trigger pull. There are several excellent striker fired pistols that will do well in IPSC with light triggers. Light polymer striker fired pistols rule IDPA in all the Divisions except revolver.:>). Most can be had for around $700Cdn. or less.

The shadow 1 is currently on sale at Tenda for under $800

That would be a good news.

No doubt Shadow 2 is just a optimized model Shadow 1 after a lot of marketing effort. I guess more competitions/options would bring the actual cost quickly.
