Semi Auto PPSH-41 in canada?

the rcmp bounced back and forth we me a few years ago as to what part was the receiver the top half or the bottom. for a while it was the top then the bottom. then I gave up as I could see they would just change the rules of the game as I tried to play.....

Im guessing they would choose the bottom as it would be a lot harder to make

Were you the one trying to make/import a legal version of the ppsh in Canada?

Pretty sure it's the upper that is the registered part.

Lower also has serial number on the tang. Where it meets the wood. The lower is the part to which all other parts of the firearm tie into. So it makes sense for lower as with all other firearms to be the registered part. Since its ppsh and being prohibited we can just throw away all logic.

Ppsh is not prohibited.

Just because both parts have a serial number, does not mean both upper and lower receivers are the regulated parts. Only one of the two halves will be the actual regulated piece of the firearm.

There are several firearms where the upper receiver is the regulated part. ACR, Swiss Arms... for example. And the lower is just another gun part.

I wanted to import one many years ago one of the us approved semi auto with small ID upper (all newly made not converted auto), and the lower had a rail welded in preventing the orig parts from being installed

I was one of a few guys trying to get one in and approved but didn't want to piss away a few grand

ppsh IS prohibited due to full auto or converted auto

it is NOT a named prohib so a newly made semi only would be restricted or not depending on barrel length

Just out of curiosity, were you able to get one in? Do you know if it was the lower or upper that was regulated? Maybe I can get a Polish parts kit and import everything other then the bolt and the regulated receiver

Parts kits are importable, but you need to import legally. Just have it imported as parts for the TNW FRT, I think.

Problem is you will not find an orphan TNW receiver.

So it looks like I found an orphan receiver. Who should I contact about getting the bolt modified to work with it? The process is well documented, but I don't really have the equipment to drill and mill the original bolt...

If it is a TNW, order a TNW bolt. If it is anything other than TNW is is either prohib or not yet examined by the lab.

Given the variance in ppsh receivers, who knows if they will say it is just like an tnw... or is easily converted.

Can't say with not knowing a brand.

Sorry, there was only one

I don't see bolts on TNW site, but I guess I can ask them if they have any left...

Any suggestions on who I should go to to get the shroud shortened and then the whole thing cerakoted? If this thing is going to be restricted, might as well get it to have a proper length...

(and yes, I have it locked in case this stripped receiver goes on a shooting rampage)

Any machinist could shorten the thing to any length you want. I'm close to K-W, if you'f be willing to ship it or drive down I'd be happy to do the work for you. Lots of places cerakoating I think.
