I been thinking of buying a new 12 guage semi auto and was looking for some advice.I am wanting to stay $600 or less and having been looking on the net at different ones in this price range, and from what I see my options are mossberg 930,baikal, hatsan escort or Weatherby sa-08. Any advice from yous that own any of these would be appreciated.

If you don't mind used you can get one of the Beretta A300 series with the A303 being the most modern and suitable for steel shot. You could also find a Browning A5 but you would need to check that it is good for steel if that is what you want. The reason I suggest these is that they are of a higher quality than new semi's of the same price and will hold their value as well. If you do decide to go new the Mossberg seems to have a good reputation and its big brother the 935 has given me good service as a waterfowl gun but is more unwieldy than my Beretta semi ( an A303) . Either way try each gun to see how it feels and points best for you.

I have the Baikal MP153 with a 24 inch barrel & synthetic stocks.

With an improved cylinder choke and steel #2's going 1550fps, it works AWESOME on ducks & geese!!!

I can only speak to the Moss 930. It has been a great gun for me. Functions 100% and fits me well (I'm completely average build). Nice balance, good weight for a waterfowl gun (if that's what you're looking for, otherwise too heavy for an upland gun). On my field model, the walnut finish and metalwork seems to be durable and fairly rust averse, seemingly the opposite of the Express finish. Loads easily, trigger is fine, no complaints whatsoever. It has a ported barrel, but no down side to it. Oh, and easy to clean and maintain. Not finicky about ammo, and can fire at least a couple hundred rounds without a problem.

Another vote for the baikal. Very happy with mine, fits me great, the only thing it didn't shoot well was the Walmart Winchester 2 3/4 shells. Changed to a better 2 3/4 and it cycles great.

This will be my 9th season on the Baikal MP-153. Extremely happy with it.

By the way, Baikal has introduced a new semi-auto: Baikal MP-155

It is now available in Canada in various stores: Epps, Gagnon, LeBaron, Dante etc.

I am going to get one soon.

Everything not to like about them you'll know when you shoulder it in the store. If it's too heavy, too long, lacking aesthetic appeal, you'll know that then and there. It will be reliable and straight shooting without question.

A buddy of mine just got one of these. Built like a tank and functions flawlessly! It may not be the prettiest semi out there but I was impressed. He got it on sail for $449. Oh....theres a youtube video of a torture test on this gun....dunked it in ice water, covered in mud and it still cycles great.
