Semi-Auto shotguns.

I just bought an SA-08 in 12 gauge. Haven't had a chance to fire it yet, but I did a lot of research before I
purchased and the vast majority of reviews were good.
Darren at Prairie Gun Traders also has them for $499.

I just bought a Mossberg SA-20 in our EE forums. Did a little research and its a sweetheart of a gun. Light, points well, I can't wait for better weather here in SW On.

It's very similar to the SA-08 Weatherby. I'm actually looking at one in 12gauge.

Gee.....I hope my wife isn't creeping my posts on here....

Another vote for the Weatherby SA-08. Its a simple design and its cheap. Slim forend and very light. People ##### about the 2 valves but its not an issue. Cycles cheap winchester bulk packs from walmart without any problems. The gun just plain works and doesn't ask for much in return.

A bit above your price range for the basic model, but I love my Winchester SX3. I bought it after noticing how much better my friend's SXP fit me than my own 870, and since I always wanted a semi, it was a natural choice. It has not let me down, and will cycle light target loads and heavy game loads just as easily. It's the 3" model, not the 3.5" because 3.5" would've been overkill for my purposes.

By most accounts, the Mossberg 930 is also a great shotgun for its price.

I've shot a Mossberg 930 and I think that would be a good choice for you. It comes with a ported barrel which will help reduce muzzle rise and control the recoil a bit better. It might not hol dup to volume shooting like a Beretta but the price is good and its light for a semi. I love the styling of an O/U, but shoot one first, with a semi the felt recoil is less, but with anything else the full recoil is there. I know you have shot pump shotguns so maybe the recoil doesn't affect you the way I think it might, if not, this isn't a concern.

Also, a Mossberg 930 in wood trim can be had new for $517.
