Semi-auto suggestions

Best experience is that learned through hands on. I've bought and traded away several shotguns and finally settled on a pair of Bennelis in a M1 and SuperSport.

I've owned five 1100's and to say the least the can be finicky about ammo. Nice guns but the gas design is dated and there are a lot better guns out there. IMO the 11-87 wasn't an improvemnet and I wouldn't direct anybody toward one of them.

The Beretta 391's are indeed great guns but owned two sporting models and found them bulky. Not a size issue as I'm 6'3", just didn't like the handling.

Gone through several older Brownings but no experience with the Gold other than a couple rounds of Sporting Clays with a borrowed one to try out. The Gold is a nice gun and seem to be holding up well.

I would direct you towards a Benelli but at the same time encourage you to go try a couple of the various makes out. They work for me.

If I didn't already have a M1 that one in the EE would be here.

I got my 3.5" SX3 from Lebarons, shipped to my door for 1k with change. Very impressed with it, perfect fit for me. Doing doubles on ducks I was never able to do with the 870.

The M1 on the EE looks very attractive too.

A shotgun is like a woman...no two are the same and will be a pain in the ass eventually down the road no matter what make or model!!:D
You will get as many different responses as there are brands and types of auto loaders on the market. I personally shoot an SBEII at the moment and absolutely love it. It was quite pricey but I have gotten my money's worth ten times over already.
I have shot an SX3 a few times and was impressed with it although it did not fit me all that well.
Personally I would stay away from the 11-87's. My first two autos were 11-87's and they there were junk. The only good Remington is trusty old 870 but that's not an auto loader! :)
First and foremost take some time at a gun shop and try as many guns out as possible. That will help you decide what fits best and will work for you.
