Semi auto UK-59

Stolen from "ARF" dot com...

Marcolmar, the same folks who brought the semi-auto PKM to market, are building a semi-auto UK VZ.59. They are sending out emails to those on their mailing list but there's nothing on their website about it. Here's a bit of their email below.

"FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - UK vz. 59 UPDATE FROM MARCOLMAR FIREARMS!

You are receiving this email because you belong to the MarColMar Firearms email update list. We have an update for you on our Semi-Auto UK vz. 59 project, the final development of the venerable Bren and ZB gun line!

We are now in possession of our ATF Tech Branch approval letter in addition our first unit is off the assembly line with 50 completed receivers ready for build right behind!

We are now waiting on just one thing, our new barrels are scheduled to be off to chrome lining the first week of April, all other items are built. Our chrome-liner believes they will be back by the end of April, so we anticipate starting deliveries just after at that time.

Your new semi UK vz. 59 package will include:

1) One new made UK vz. 59 semi auto gun, with a made in the U.S. receiver, from a solid block of steel. This receiver was made to CZ specifications and has been determined to be a semi-auto only receiver by the ATF Tech Branch.

2) One new made UK vz. 59 7.62x54R barrel, utilizing the original CZ front sight, bipod, gas block and carry handle. This barrel blank was made by Lothar Walther in Germany, to their machine gun grade specifications for 7.62x54R. The barrel is deep blued, and assembled for each semi UK vz. 59.

3) Together the new receiver, barrel, and our patent pending semi-auto firing group, are assembled into a 922 r compliant semi-auto gun. The gun is professionally finished in Vz. grey/blue, just like the original guns. Each gun is made from an excellent kit, that was demilled in CZ, utilizing all the original components the law allows.

4) Included in your kit you will also receive:

- One 50 round assault can (pictured) with belt, that snaps to the side of the gun.

"If the UK59 feeds the cartridge straight into the chamber like the MG42 then I believe we can get these belts to work in the gun."

And stolen from another site, for which the pictures no longer exist...

I took some pictures of the 2 different belts
One shows the 2 belts side by side. As you can see, the spacing is the same. Notice how the bullet tips of the cartridges in the UK59 belt line up with the hook on the MG42 belt.
Another picture shows the UK59 belt placed in a .308 feed tray. The feed tray is too short by about 1/4".
The other pic shows the belt and cartridges laying on the feed pawls of a .308 top cover. The links fit right into the feed pawls just like on a MG42 belt. As you can see, an empty link will clear the ejection port on the top cover. But, with a .308 top cover the case heads of the 7.62x54R barely clear the feed port . I didn't use my 8mm top cover because I don't know if I can find one and I'm not going to use my 8mm top cover. I will have a dedicated 7.62x54R top cover instead. The cartridges have to be positioned towards the rear because of the feed pawls.
I didn't take a pic of the cartridge in the feed tray. Forgot. I'll have to take one and add it to this post. The edge of the rear slot has to be opened up some and then beveled. If not , the rim will catch on the lip and the bolt head won't be able to push the cartridge forward. The front opening of the feed tray will have to be radiused to allow the rim to pass through also. And the slot in the feed tray will have to be reconfigured.
I'm not sure how the cartrigde pressure plate wil have to be modified but the ojriginal 7.62x54R had the plate modified. I'll have to play around with it.
I'm going to make a dummy barrel up using a barrel extension on a barrel stub so that I can check the feed. Since I don't have a 7.62x54R barrel, I can use the old useless barrel stud and drill it out to accept a dummy 7.62x54R round. "

I believe the above post is about using a UK59 belt in an MG42. Seems like the two belts are pretty similar. Shame we can't get the gun to try it with unlimited MG42 belts.

Marstar was importing but they screwed him. They actually started harassing VZ-58 importers over 58 types years before this CZ/Swiss thing. In any case, all classification announcements are due the day after we see a Liberal majority.

The FSN-02 was the marstar version. It was deemed a converted auto.

As the MarColMar version's receiver is freshly milled from a block of new steel, it isn't a receiver being converted from a full auto receiver.

Wish someone would take a run at these.
