Nothing wrong with the Stoeger 2000.Not expensive,and Stoeger customer sevice is great if you ever require it.(buddy had an ejector problem a week before duck opener.The gunshop called a rep explained the situation,and he walked out of the shop with a NIB Stoeger).

Check out the reviews on the Benelli forums about the Stoeger 2000.There are alot less problems with these than alot of the Benelli,and Franchi models.

A buddy of mine was selling the Stoegers and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM came back for warranty work. No issues with the Baikals or Berettas through.

The reason I mentioned earlier that the Spartan series wasn't available in Canada, was simply due to a trade deal between Baikal and Remington. I am sure They can be had through other sources legally though.

There are two new returned Baikals at my local gun shop this past week.One won't chamber a round(action won't close),the other won't discharge at all.He said he isn't sure if they will have them back by opening day.

Atleast the Stoeger guy had a gun to go home with for the opener.Your product is only as good as who is backing it.

Has to have someone good backing it I guess, they just all break. I don't know if they have improved but this was about 2 years ago he was selling them and they all had issues.

One customer was particularily pissed as he bought 2 and had neither one back for the entire hunting season. He hunted all year with an 870 that was as old as he was and falling apart.

Interesting about the 2 broken Baikals as I have yet to see one but it definitely can happen to any brand I guess. I have seen a few of the SXSs with some issues and sometimes the fit and finish of their O/Us is not so hot.

They seem solid enough but they point like a club IMO.

You've got a good price range though, you can find a very reliable semi-auto shotgun for over a grand. I bought my camo winchester sx2 two years ago for 999.99 as it was last years gun, I shoot 95% waterfowl with a bit of trap and upland thrown in and I can honestly say in two years I havent had a single hang up or jam. I only clean it about once a month normally. Light loads, heavy loads, it doesnt matter, the gun cycles everything no problems.

My brother had a browning gold that he got for right around $1000. Good gun, never had any problems, he moved onto a benelli sbeII a new one may be out of the price range. He loves the gun, barely has to clean the thing ever and works flawlessly.

I dont think you'll have any problems with any of the guns mentions, benellis, berettas, winchester sx2 or 3s, brownings. Though you will have to clean most of the gas piston type a bit more to keep it cycling smooth like butter. But then there will also be guns that can be total lemons. I've heard of a few sx2s which have had to go in for multiple repairs and I think its fair to say every type is going to have a few lemons in there somewhere, just hope you're not the unlucky one.

from what i have read and heard, with the baikal/spartan you need to actually follow the break-in procedure in the manual for them to feed everything properly.
the gun cycles everything from light 2 3/4" loads to magnum 3.5" turkey loads, and needs an approx. 100 round break-in procedure before it will function smoothly.

i am willing to bet that 9/10 of the people complaining about feed issues are the typical clueless customers who just buy the gun, dont even glance at the manual, and take it straight out on their first duck hunting trip expecting it to cycle all types of ammo flawlessly.

of course if i actually receive the gun (just a few days now), take it out for its break-in and after a couple hundred rounds encounter any feed issues ill be back here singing a different tune... but somehow i doubt that will be the case.

I know 3 gunshops that won't carry them anymore.

I had two, and both had issues by the 3rd day of hunting.

The 2000 kicked like a muel, didn't cycle shells quite often, and didn't eject shells quite often. I have seen this with many other guys who have had them as well.

A for the customer service for a non ejecting stoeger 2000, 3 days before duck season. That is good, but would prefer not to to have the issues in the first place.


as for the baikals, they are an amazing bang for the buck. Not one has come back at 2 stores that have sold about 30 between them. and for an inexpensive gun, they swing remarkably well and modest recoil.
