While looking at different semi's I noticed that some guns come with a 13 round magazine or 10 rounds. My question is, are 10 round mags the legal limit for Canada? Specifically I was looking at the Browning Hi Power Mark III model. Thanks.

Yes, 10 is max . Anything more you go to jail.

Pistol magazines are limited to not more than 10 rounds of the type they were designed to accept.

If it's for sale in Canada, it will come with a 10 round magazine. Some may be built as 10 round mags. Others have been permanently altered to 10 round capacity by the importer.

Center-fire semi-auto rifles, max is 5 rounds. In some cases they're classified as pistols or some will accept magazines made for pistols which are limited to 10 rds.
Rim-fire, semi-auto have unlimited magazines, so sky's the limit on those.

Could you please read the Firearms Act and quit repeating the same wrong information.

The guns have no capacity limit. The magazines designed and manufactured for them "might" depending on the type of gun.

Rifles are not classed as pistols nor vise versa. There is no loophole. The prohibited or unregulated item is the magazine itself.

True but it alright to load more of a different caliber. Say maybe 13 rounds of 9mm in a 40 mag (if it functions). However the IPSC rule book for Canada says max 10.

Yes, perfectly legal, no problems what so ever. You cannot however modify the original make to function better with the other caliber and has to be left as is for the original caliber. There has been a published ruling on this with specifics I believe to the Glock 17 9mm using a Glock 22 40S&W mag legally being allowed to have more than 10 9mm rounds in it.

Good luck explaining that to the LEOs if the problem ever came up.

No problem at all. It is a published ruling. If you plan on doing it, carry a copy of the ruling. We need to stop hiding from LEO's with our perfectly legal activities that we "think" may cause us problems. If we hide it, then it does look like we are doing something wrong.

Hell I only mention it since this is the action shooting forum, thought maybe it had something to do with IPSC.

Perhaps this basic question should be moved to general discussion.
