semi matching K98k value

Hi Guys,

I have a K98k I think I will sell here. It is matching between stock, reveiver, barrel, barrel band etc but the bolt is not but matches itself. The otherthing is I think the crown is a little messed up as it's acurate but causes tumbling, I didn't buy it as a shooter though. It also picked up US Import marks at the end of the barrel at some point in its life. What would something like this be worth if anything?

Mauser Obendorf (code 42) early 1939 production K98.

Bolt m/m are the second most desirable K98 with an all matching being the most desriable.

There is some surface pitting and the import marks will hurt the price.

Anywhere from $400-800 depending on the buyer. If it was in better shape and without import marks, it could easily command the higher price and if not maybe slightly higher.
 
Usually m/m bolts are vet bringbacks from what I've seen. The story goes surrendered rifles had bolts removed and placed in one pile, rifles in another. Allied soldiers just picked up a rifle and grabbed a bolt from the pile. The majority I've seen were all matching except for the bolt and the bolt was all matching to itself. If you're going to fire it, check the headspace. Agentcq's estimate is pretty close, can't tell much from the pics.
 
I would agree with the $400-$800 range. Another factor in the equasion is the stock. If the stock is in excellent original shape, I would say closer to $800. In the photos you provided the stock does look heavily sanded, which does hurt the value.

I would say $500 if it has a good bore and in good shape. In the K98 collecting game numbers matter and no matter which way you church it up, it is still a mismatch. Mismatch on the major parts (stock, barrel receiver and bolt) are the major mismatch detractors. A mismatched capture screw would make a debatable "almost matching" price. Although I think saying that a rifle is "almost matching" is like saying my d*** is almost a foot long.
 
The correct term is Mismatched.

If one or more parts is Not Matching, it's not a matching numbers rifle and never will be.

It's like Pregnant, either you are or you arn't.
 
The import marking hurts the value a bit but I think she sits above a RC Kar98k (which frankly is the best us Canadians can hope for in a Kar98k).

I'd buy that Kar98k :).
 
I just read the OP again and if the rounds are indeed tumbling than the crown or barrel is damaged and/or worn out. $400 tops for that rifle then. I think realistically it is $300-$350.
 
I can see the ad now: Non Matching, Import Marked K98 that Keyholes - $800! lol I kid, I kid, I am sure you will put it up for a good price or it will just sit there on the EE being bumped weekly like so many ads are these days.

I was tempted to offer you some cash for it until I realized the keyhole issue. I already have a K98 with a shot out barrel that I don't shoot. You need to also be careful about headspace in a mismatch not just because of the bolt/barrel combo but also if the bore is poor chances are the throat erosion is horrendous as well.
 
Thanks guys, one of my friends offered me $350 for it today when he heard I was selling so I think I'll just take that, he doesn't care about shooting it because he never will, he just wants to shoot blanks from it for reenacting. Thanks a lot for the insight, true enough, almost matching is still not matching :)

lol, yeah, would have been a interesting ad! The waffenamps weren't sanded off though, they were still there with the serial number of the rifle, aside from the crown it was the nicest of the 5 I had owned over the last few years, I got rid of all but one now (an all matching one) and sold my 3 G43's and P38. Canada's gun laws are just too crazy...
