Semi vs Bolt

Even further, we can in fact compare real life performance of botl vs semi.

Exhibit A,

Exhibit B,

We can see that even at 50-100 yards accuracy is in fact major problem and aiming is taking more time than a reload. Beyond that proper lead and elevation together with aiming will be a much bigger challenge than a reload. High volume of fire per second is only cool than you can drive with all the ammo up to the range and carry nothing more than a bottle of water for a whole day.

Tried searching but couldn't find some stages of PRS shooters on youtube showing them rattle off a bunch of shots. WOWSA, these guys can run a bolt gun and all shots are directed fire at LR at pretty small targets.

If the goal is just launch lead down range, definitely a semi is at an advantage BUT if the bolt rifle is set up properly, and the goal is aimed fire... things start to close up alot.

Guarantee you the semi will be much faster sending lead down the range. Everyone has seen the idiot with the SKS dumping mags after mags, smoking up the barrel, and hitting minute of dirt.

This is the precision rifle forum so precision/accuracy was implied.
I will bring my bolt and semi to a range to share with any individual and I can bet which rifle will be quicker for both of us.

OK, I like semi's and I like bolts with a slight preference for the latter I guess but that preference is dictated by the type of shooting I enjoy the most - making small groups at some distance. If we look at popular bolt guns from Remington and Savage, M1A/M14 rifles from SAI, LRB and customised Norcs and AR-based platforms from good manufacturers and consider MOA to be an accuracy standard then I think we can agree that nearly all the modern bolt guns, very well tuned M1A's /M14's and nearly all properly tuned AR's can make the grade. If we tighten the standard to 3/4 MOA many of the bolt guns and the best of the AR's can still play but the M1A/M14 type rifles sadly won't be there -at least not more than once in a blue moon and it won't stay there. Further tightening the standard to 1/2 MOA and a goodly number of the bolts can still play but only the very best of the AR's will still be in the game and I doubt if any will consistently produce such groups.

As for speed of lead downrange, of course the semi's have the advantage but as we can see from earlier in the thread not so much as many would initially think.
