How goes it?!
I'm looking for an "as close to milspec as possible," semi auto, magfed 12 gauge. Relatively new to this firearm class, any information on the topic I will put to good use. Have my eye on a SKO 12, due to it's 'murican craftsmanship, having trouble locating a Canadian dealer. Also, is 7075 t6 aluminum even solid enough for a hearty shotgun? Let me know what you think.

7075 T6 is plenty strong. The DD AR that got run over, blown up, and dropped out of a helicopter was of course 7075 as well.

I can not even think of any Mil used magfed semi-auto shotguns, typically magfed shotguns are frowned on for reliability, so I doubt there is such a thing. Closest one I can think of would be a Saiga 12ga, but those are prohib.

Consider the FD12 or MK1919, as they both accept AS46 mags.

If you want a mag fed semi auto shotgun that’s “as milspec as possible” (what does that even mean?) then you don’t want a mag fed semiautomatic shotgun. The only thing that is even vaguely close to milspec (which is a mostly meaningless term) would be the AA12, which to my understanding is prohibited. As far as I am aware, no serious military has adopted a magazine fed semiautomatic shotgun in any meaningful quantity.

Does anybody know if the front picatinny rail (the one over the barrel) on SKO-12 has any other function than to mount optics? I mean, does it secure the barrel to the receiver (or something like that) or it can be safely removed?

It's prohibited but only milspec shotgun I can think of is the USAS 12. Military and law enforcement models came in select fire. Sadly, doesn't help you here.

Now that you mention illegal, I don't even think you can make your own down south.

Sko-12 and Sko-bullpup do not have FRT's yet so you wont see them on shelves. And if you import be prepared to have the RCMP get a little handsy with it for 3 years and possibly still prohibit it.
The longer they have it, the better - I'm willing to bet we see a large number of backlogged approvals cleared as prohibited in the next 90 days so they get stuff prohibited before the next election. It still won't mean anything, but the 'politicians' in Regina will be happy.
