Send baloney...starving

Oh trust me, these are definitely fakes. I've spoken to some of the importers directly and personally. They were NOT originally made up to deceive, they were sold to the importers as reproductions built on non-sniper rifles that had the scope rails machined (common variant).

Some Canadian resellers are being honest about it (P&S), others are NOT (*cough-cough* MILARM *cough-cough*).

Here is the ad copy from the P&S ad (these ALL come from the same source, BTW):

(PS657)- Russian SVT-40 semi-auto Sniper rifle, cal. 7.62x54R, by Izhevsk Arsenal dated 1940, comes complete with ammo pouches, sling, and oil bottle , it is Arsenal refinished with electro-pencil numbers typical of Russian Post-War rebuilts. Matches except for magazine, mount and scope are reproductions (WW2 markings on scope have been faithfully reproduced). $1,375.00 Can + shipping. (Canadian F.A.C. or P.A.L. required). Just take a look at the top rear of the receiver. An original sniper will have a shallow groove crosswise across the top rear of the receiver, directly behind the receiver cover, where the scope mount pin engages. There are two identified styles, factory flat bottomed groove with proof mark and divisional armourer level round bottom groove. If it looks like the groove was done by a rat tail file, Bubba was at work.

Interestingly enough, rarity of originals and a lack of fdetail photos on the net are responsible for the fakes not being historically accurate in this respect. Problem is, now people are posting more images and the fakers are now wiser. I would not trust ANY SVT "sniper" built on an electro-pencilled refub. The fakes are multiplying like rabbits in a cage.

Umm... sorry to burst any bubbles. The SVT-40 "snipers" at Milarm, P&S, etc. are REPRODUCTIONS. Original SVT-40's with modern mounts and optics stamped to deceive as original.

Jean at P&S will tell you as much. Milarm, on the other hand, lies about it - but they are all 100% for certain fakes.

They are pretty though!

Yup...you are correct

They actually told me they were out of the Ukraine and were 'new' refurbs

Nobody ever actually used the 'R' word

Regardless...I got it for a decent price and the scope is crystal clear...so what the hell,eh?

Happy to enable:p BUY MORE! I get the feeling you're not joking though, maybe it's time we stopped encouraging each other! I'm telling my girlfriend I got it from you:puke:

Sweet guns though. Definately better than pawning the mother in law's VCR for crack, really...

gah, Im fretting whether or not I can spend them oney to get an SKS let alone a SVT-40 sniper! yar. hahaha. And Im already eating baloney!

anyway, Nice rifles you got there.. Hope to have a collection as extensive as yours and many of the guys on this board some day.

Klunk dear friend,

How does the SVT scope adjust? I know on the MN you had to either grind or shim the mount and bracket to get it centered, but how does the SVT work for that?

Nice rifles, Thanks to Claven for pointing at that Milarm is not the most honest or forthcoming vendor of quasi historic arms. I'd be happy to have a repro but would buy it from the guy (P+S) who was truthful about it. This is yet another example of how good honest dealers have to compete with shysters.

In fairness the price isn't really out of line for a well done repro. The problem is the dealers who are NOT disclosing that they are not originals!

I know of several CGN-ers who have pm'd me BEFORE this thread came up asking this same thing about Milarm's (and other dealers I won't mention) SVT snipers. I usually direct them to one of the dealers selling the same item for the same price, only HONESTLY.

Good question...

Unlike the Nag sniper there doesnt appear to be any way of 'course adjustment' to the scope

The scope could probably be shimmed for elevation but Im not sure what course to take if it requires major windage adjusting

.....Claven?.....

The original scope mounts would have been factory fitted for cant and position by trial and error (swapping around), but generally they fit on and are within the turret adjustment range when built within spec.

And enough MilArm bashing...

I called today and talked to their premier 'collector' who belives them to original units

Not that they are...or are not...but they are fooling people if they are fakies

I like mine...its juicy sweet and makes people scratch their chins....and unless 1000 of them come in next week....it will be worth more every day (the guage of surplus)

As I said, the price is not out of line for a high end repro and they ARE nice units built on real refurbed SVT40's. My only beef is that all these come from the same source, advertised the SAME WAY. Yet some dealers quote those ads and disclose that they are repros with modern scopes and mounts, while other dealers (whom I won't name anymore lest sensitive CGNers be upset) neglect to mention the "repro" part in their ad copy and feign ignorance when you ask them outright about it (like your collector friend at a dealer, Klunk).

I #### you not when I say that these guns were advertised at the wholesale level as REPRODUCTIONS. If any dealer claims otherwise they are BSing you.
