Sendero action/stock play issue?

Gents, I would like pose a question regarding the the tightness tolerances of the bedding area of a new Remington Sendero SF II. The rifle sports an HS Precision stock c/w aluminum bed block. Upon inspection the other day, I found two things. 1) I had slight contact with the stock 3.5" ahead of the recoil lug, I decided to relieve this with light sanding, as this rifle's only bed-mates are aluminum, 2) there was fore-aft play i.e. the barrelled action could move ahead and forward without the action screws set. Now is this standard? Once the screws are set, the lug is mated to the rear against the bed block thereby securing it during recoil.

Any comments? Should I be concerned with this "play"? Bear in mind, this only occurs when the action screws are not set.

Thanks for reading.

Barrel to stock contact, I would say not normal. Action screws loosened and axial movement limited by recoil lug is normal. Bed it and all your problems will disappear.

I think the loose fit of an aluminum block was originally a military spec so barreled actions could be switched from stock to stock....

I always recommend glass bedding the action on top of blocks, centering the barrel in the barrel channel with clearance and only using the rear screw lightly tightened to hold it in place while the glass cures...
