Sending A Bear Fur Rug To China.

That is new. They have always gotten them when leaving from here.

It's been around for quite a while, I don't recall how many years exactly. It makes things a lot easier, but sucks for Canadian taxidermists. However, the current exchange rate gives some added incentive to have a mount done here.

I am an American hunting in Canada. Do I need a CITES permit to bring my black bear trophy back across the border to the US?

A Canadian CITES export permit is not required for a U.S. hunter to transport their black bear in a fresh, frozen or salted condition back to the U.S. at the conclusion of their hunt. The black bear must be part of the hunter’s accompanying baggage and must only be hides, hides with attached paws and claws, the skull or meat. A Canadian CITES export permit would be required for the bear organs or bones.

Permits are required for taxidermy mounts or black bears that are in any condition other than fresh, frozen or salted. CITES export permits are still required for all black bear exports to countries other than the United States. In some countries, importation of black bears is restricted, so you should confirm with the other country whether they have requirements that must be met for this type of import.

You really want to impress them learn how to speak there language and use chopsticks properly.! And then of course after your married bring them over here as refuges so they can get life long government assistance cheques each month, plus free health, dental and eye care. Then they will be really impressed.

Well, you hit the nail on the head with the first part and then stubbed your #### mercilessly on the second.

Note that the exemption is only for hunters leaving with their bears at the conclusion of their hunt. Once the bear stays behind in Canada after the conclusion of the hunt (ie for taxidermy or another person to take back), a CITES permit is required

for the OP, you will need a CITES permit and a provincial export permit (depending on the province you are in)

Some of it is starting to get a little confusing because we got some posts talking about sending the bear fur rug to China while others are talking about American hunters taking their bear fur back to America. Anyways, so far the information provided is an excellent starting point. Thank you all. I just need to get a bear this spring so I can actually start this process.

Knew a fella that was spending quality time with his wife, on the kitchen counter. All the way out and jammed it, quite forcefully into the gap between the drawer and the countertop. Ouch.

Back on topic, take special care to make sure your package meets both export and import requirements. I had a package shipped from the UK that had proper documents to get out, but not into Canada. It was confiscated and "destroyed". IE some border guard has a sweet collection of antique pool balls.

I think CITES is what you have to worry about to export but for import in China is up to their rules.
There is not too many countries with flexible rules for import/export animal or organic products.
Just make sure you read throughly both Countries involved permit requirements and import export regulations
