Hey Guys,
Does a guy need to do any paperwork to send my Leupold scope to the Custom shop to have M1 turrets installed? Not sure if anyone has done this or has the info on a temporary import of the scope to the US. Any info would be great...or point me in the right direction please!

I know about Korth.....didnt know he could install the turrets as well.....I'll be giving him a call to see about it and get it up to him. Makes sense that if he could do em thats the way I'd be doing it...

Appreciate it....I'll touch base with him and see....

It would be interesting to hear because the last I heard Korth couldn't service any Mark 4 or Long Range Tactical scopes. The M1 knobs would be on a 30mm tube and are on the Mark 4 and Long Range Tactical Scopes. If you have a 1" tube I don't think the M1 knobs would fit anyway.

Ditto on that.

Really? Everyone I've talked to and asked about it over on 24hour has told me they will fit, and I've emailed Leupold Custom shop and they have told me it would be a simple install.....

I'll have to check, but seems like it was a pretty easy install on either M1's or Target turrets on my VXIII.....would suck if it wasnt.

Yep....just confirmed through some emails that I've got and threads that I've read with a rep from Leupold posting that yes the M1 turret is an easy install on my VXIII 3.5-10x40....

Now to find out if Korth can do it or if I need to send to the US....I'll have to make some calls today

Have to wait till Thursday until Gordon (tech) is in and can answer it for me.....talked to them but he's not in today. Either way, sure would be nice to get it all done in Canada and save on the border stuff...

M-1's

Hi Trev, yes they can and will install the M-1 turrets.Cost I was quoted was $137CDN per turret. At Leupold in Oregon the cost is $135US for both turrets!I'm guessing that you only want the vertical adjustment anyway!Regards,Mur

Mur,
Yep I'm just going Elevation on the scope......thanks for teh price. I'll have it all boxed up and send it off to em. Easier than worryin about sending it to the US right now I'd assume.
Do you run em on any of your guns?

Turrets

I think that's the right thing to do,sending your scope to the States would be a paperwork nightmare,as you know!I have turrets on the MkIV on my .22-250AI,I'm waiting to see if Leupold comes out with the low-profile "Hunter" turrets before I put them on my hunting rifles.I don't like the height of the M-1's for packing in the bush, but they should be no problem out on that bald-assed prairie that you live on!Regards,Mur

Mur,
Damn right about the bald prairie....I was thinking of waiting for the Hunter turrets as well too.....not sure I'm gonna like the M1 turret up top for when I AM in the bush, but have heard good enough reviews so far so I guess we'll wait and see.....

Of course, when you're in the bush you don't need the turrets anyway because shots tend to be closer!I'll probably put the Hunter turrets on my .280AI(if Leupold ever brings them out!),as that will be my long range deer rifle. It has a 2.5X8 VX-3 B&C on it,and I think the M-1's would unbalance the look of that scope.I am considering the FX 6 powers, but they are now available with the LR reticle so turrets shouldn't really be neccesary.DO NOT buy a Leupold scope without contacting me as I have access to some deals that you may not know about!Cheers,Mur:D

Before you send your scope to the U.S, make sure you do not need export paperwork to get it shipped back to you.

Confirm this with Leupold and the U.S. Commerce Dept. The Commerce Dept. controls firearms optic/sight exports.

Would be a ##### to find out that you can't get your scope back after you sent it down there..................

Now on that Vari IIIX 3.5 - 10 X 40mm scope, are they going to install the target turrets that came on the Tactical version, or the Actual Mark 4 turrets????

I have had friends have the "Tactical/Target" turrets retrofitted on the same scope you have and the turrets were not the Mark 4 ones.........

SKBY.

Skull,
Thanks for the post....like I posted earlier in the thread, I'll end up talking with Okotoks and having it done. I work for the govt and know all about import/export stuff, and so only would send to the US if I had the paperwork squared away. Since it sounds like Okotoks will do it so thats that....

As for the turrets....they will be the M1 style turrets.....not the "Target Turrets" which have the higher profile. Not sure which ones teh Mark 4 turrets are.

I MAY wait and see how the new Hunter turrets look.....but not sure when they are supposed to be out....

Turrets

Hi Skullboy,I don't know enough about tactical or target turrets to answer your question!I have the MkIV PR,which does not have the M-1 turrets that a lot of guys are using for long range hunting applications. Most people are having the M-1 installed for elevation only, and not worrying about windage.Leupold is supposed to be coming out with a lower profile finger adjustable hunting turret that should look a lot better on hunting rifles, and still provide quick adjustment. We're stilling waiting!Regards,Mur

This is a pic of the Mark 4 M1 turrets:

The "target" turrets have a cap that screws on over top of the turret. You can leave it off if so desired.

As mention by Mur, the Mark 4 Precison Rifle series of scope had the "target" style turrets.

The way the M1 turrets are designed, I can't see it fitting on a 1" tube scope..................but if the Leupold Reps say they can do it.......:D

Leupold tells me they can fit the M-1's to most VX-2 and VX-3 scopes.I've seen lots on 1" tubes on the 24HrCampfire,so I guess it's a go!:D That being said I'd prefer the lower profile knobs on a hunting rifle,Sightron has them on their 6X42 "Big Sky" model. As you say the turrets on my PR are target turrets with caps!Regards,Mur
