Sending handgun to USA for repair

Well cant speak for all the gun manufacturers but mine has been in the hands of Smith and Wesson for 7+ months. Hope this helps you, btw i did not send it Murray Charlston in BC sent it for me.
I ended up buying a GSG 1911, best move i ever did.

If it ain't absolutely necessary, don't do it, find the Canadian distributor and go through them. One of our club members who knows his way around the system because he lives part of the year in Arizona had a CZ frame hard chromed - took a year start to finish. He knew the paperwork, he knew the shop and it's owner. Job actually took half an hour, rest of the year was bureaucracy.
 
It's pretty easy.

Depending upon what you want done it and from where that will be the determining factor. I HIGHLY recommend going thru the Canadian Distributor - they will be able to send it back referencing the original import paperwork on the ITAR exemption, and that takes all of about 15min.

My S&W pistol has been at Murray Charlton Enterprises for over 5 months now. Still waiting for a RMA from S&W before it can even be returned to the factory. Who knows when they will issue one, maybe they don't want it back.
 
Just a note for anyone with Colt Revolver. I talked to Colt's custom shop/repair foreman at 2012 SHOTSHOW about fixing Canadian guns, he said they have no system set up, that I would have to have an exporter/importer do the paperwork to have the guns shipped to Colt USA.
I asked if they would set up a once a year export from Canada by Colt USA, he said they were so far behind as it was, there was no chance they would be willing to take all the Python's, Detective Special, Diamond Back's etc. Also they are having problems with having a supply of parts for all the out of production revolvers. He also said they are having a problem getting a subcontractor to make springs,hands,etc. to keep up with the guns that keep coming in for repair.
I am going to ShotShow again this year and will query the Colt Custom/repair shop again about this subject.

You must have just missed the batch where mine was sent in very frustrating for sure, who wants their gun out of service for 1 year at a time? When i first spoke to them they told me.... yeah you should have it back within a few weeks. Ya right!!!
word of warning if you can get it repaired locally, do it!
