Hi Gang

The Cornwall Handgun Club will be hosting a Canadian Defensive Pistol match (IDPA) on Saturday the 24th of September. This match is sanctioned by the Canadian Shooting Sports Association (CSSA). The first CDP/IDPA match so sanctioned. :D

The match will have 6 courses of fire, steel and cardboard targets, 76 round minimun count. Vickers count.

All shooters IDPA certified, IPSC Black Badge holders, or PPC certified are eligible to participate.

The current IDPA rules will be enforced.

No overbelts, no cleated running shoes, no speed holsters, no walkthroughs, no ghostsighting.

The only rule that, I am told the CSSA will change is the 4.2" or less barrel rule on revolvers. Canada being Canada. :roll:

If you plan on attenting this match, please go to www.idpa.com and read the rules of the game, if you have not already done so.

Match fee is $25.00

We hope to have a mobile canteen (of one form or another) to look after the lunch needs of the participants. (The last bug to iron out)

Since when did CSSA become the governing body for IDPA in Canada?
 
CSSA relationship with IDPA Question

The CSSA is not the governing body for IDPA in Canada nor is there any other official organization that has been approved by IDPA US. Due to the increasing popularity of this shooting sport, the CSSA has initiated a program to Canadianize the US IDPA Rules to fit Canadian Firearms regulations and have produced a shooter certification course to ensure the participants enjoy this sport safely.

Those shooters who are already certified for IPSC (Black Badge) or PPC (CSSA Certified) are considered qualified participants as well as those who successfully complete the CSSA CDP Shooter Certification Course.

The CSSA is sanctioning matches that fall under the guidelines established for Canadian Defensive Pistol (CDP). The CDP Pistol Committee is headed by David Burke (dburke@northcom.net). Any clubs or shooters who are intested in participating in this program should contact David or the CSSA office.

The IDPA course on Saturday went off without a hitch. Everybody that participated had a great time, despite weather only a duck would love.
Details of the course will be written up in the next CSSA bulletin.

Shooting slots for the match this Saturday in Cornwall are filling up, but we still have some room. If you want to come out and play, contact the club (Email above) or PM me with your email address by Thursday.

I do not subscribe to the theory that we need yet another Canadian self appointed group to watch over us and tell us how to run shooting matches. We already run IDPA style events and when the level of competition rises, or the members want it, we will approach IDPA directly to get official sanctioning.

I was at the Saturday match in Cornwall. The organizers went out of their way to set it up so as to provide a challenge and some variety.

As an IPSC shooter, I found I had to get used to some different concepts. Made plenty of mistakes from which I hope to learn.

I look forward to further matches, both here and in the USA.

I enjoyed the match as well. Found it to be a bit more of a challenge than ipsc. Liked the hidden stage where you dont know what you're going to face untill you go through the door, would like to see more of those.
 
Hi Guys

Glad to hear that everybody that attended the match enjoyed themselves.
I would of liked to see more competitors show up, a few no shows. Oh well ,their loss. Someone said, " keep doing it and they will come!" Maybe next year!

Lots of curious visitors dropped in, including two chaps from the UK.

For next year, I now find myself in the situation of having to dream up some new course of fire scenarios that will out do the ones I had for this match.

I want to have a qualifier early next year also.

Ah spring....
