September Purchase

Just got this in the mail Yesterday from the good people over at SFRC / theammosource.com (they were awesome too - would highly recommend. My brother got some ammo and a 91/30 from them too and no issues.)

It's a 1942 Tula armory SVT 40. She's got the electro pencil plumb bolt and an AVT stock with the two cut outs. I hear these ones are not too rare but I don't care, I've always loved the look of these rifles and it is my first milsurp purchase.

Big ups to svt1940/Joce and all the work in the SVT 40 thread. It really helped in my decision making and the breakdown pictures are hugely invaluable to anyone who gets one of these. Also, they are not as hard to take apart as some people may say! Just watch the springs!

Can't wait to put some rounds through!

Heres my new Mosin sniper PU . All numbers match , all parts appear to be Izvhesk , no electropenciling anywhere , bore and crown look like new! The trigger is the best i have ever felt on any mosin by far . The number on scope matches a number stamped on the side of the receiver . glad i sold my old repo PU and bought this ..

boss351cleveland, those markings are commercial proofs (required to sell the rifle as a "hunting rifle". Russia cannot export "military" arms to the civilian market. Hence the commercial packaging and manual as well.)

It never came with commercial packaging and manual? just came with rifle scope and scope cover ..

I wish I didn't blow my funds on a stupid roof for my house...all these september purchases are making me itch...the milsurp bug is a hungry critter. Love the Yugo's and that Mosin sniper...and the SVT...*sigh

1914 Lithgow SMLE Mk III

Well, this rifle has brought the average condition of my collection up a bit.

A 1914 Lithgow SMLE, in what appears to be in original 1914 trim.

There is a plaque inset into the left side of the buttstock and some hand "engraving" above it. There is a groove running across the top of the buttstock and the second photo below shows the beginnings of a second etching at the other end of the groove, at the top, to the right above all the Lithgow buttstock markings. "8.14" is what is stamped to the right of the Lithgow shield - the first month of the war.

Numbered bits all match and it's all Lithgow-manufacture that I can tell, with A-inside-a-star parts everywhere.

As an added bonus, it came equipped with this.

It also came with a 1918-dated Sanderson manufacture 1907 bayonet, Canadian-marked to the CMR, plated for parade use.

Bore is excellent on it, but I'm thinking this may be my one and only safe queen.

My first Mauser. Everything but the bolt is matching; the bolt parts all match to each other. Too bad it's been bubba'd, but it will make for a good fall project.

Bubba had a lot of fun with the sandpaper

Now comes the tricky part. I have to convince my Mosin, SVT, M1917 and 6 Enfields to allow it into the safe. I fear they may gang up on it.

Mark <ГИС> is the mark of the State Testing Organization (Государственная Испытательная Станция, very rudimentary unfinished website), one of three Russian proof houses. They have a testing lab located in a town of Klimovsk, Moscow District.

State Testing Organization is in charge of certifying hand held firearms, industrial and special purpose devices and ammunition for them on compliance with the safety in accordance with the appropriate international standards and standards of Russian Federation (Usually GOST Р N50529-2010 and similar). They also certify personal armor, and such. Since they are a member of CIP (Commission Internationale Permanente pour l'Epreuve des Armes à Feu Portatives), their mark on firearms is internationally recognized by the CIP member states.

Basically, passed the test(s), is safe for use by civilians.
