I actually bought this a few months back, but just got it this weekend. Sadly, since it was not registered and grandfathered, it had to be deactivated.

The magazine is an Isreali magazine for now untli I can find a proper EX1 mag.

At the same auction I also got this FN49, the EX1's slightly older brother. It also was not registered and sold as a parts gun or for deactivation. I managed to do both with it.

What was so wrong with the 49 that it was a parts gun?
It had all the signs of being a converted auto and was not registered. The little holes were on the trigger guard for the selector switch, there were grind marks under those holes where I suspect the letters A and R (or something similar ) would have been, and the stock also had the proper shape for the selector, which was no longer present. The gas plug also had A and R letters on it, although the R was likely for single shot when shooting grenades. All numbers matched on the gun, so with all of the above indicators, and the fact that the gun was not registered, the auction house decided to sell it as a parts gun, or for deactivation. The gun was part of the estate of a fairly large firearms association president....it was surprising that he had prohib class unregistered rifles in his possession.

This was one of the 7.65 rifles, and according to some sites I have seen, the rifles were originally selective fire, but left the factory as semi auto. Apparently, the trials did not support the automatic feature on rifles as light as these.

I needed parts from it anyway. I bought a FN49 in 8mm a while back on the EE, and when it arrived, it turned out to be lacking. The hammer had been ground to try and make it full auto, and the return springs had become bent. There were a few screws that were incorrect as well. The donor gun allowed me to replace all the damaged and missing parts. I shouldn't have any problem recouping my investment in the 7.65 FN49 by selling it off as a dewat.

I must say I had a giggle seeing all those un-papered 'items' from 'that guys' basement

I dont feel like getting the books out....EX1?.....Canadian test FAL?

Just got a decent Enfield No.2 Mk.I from Epps. Pictured here with a Mk.I* I bought several years ago.

Yes. Total quantities purchased of the EX1 and EX2 was 2000. Purchased from FN. Once the C1 was in production, the EX rifles were relegated to DP use with the army cadets as drill rifles, and with the airborne school as jump rifles.

I now have the EX1, the C1A1, and the C2A1, along with the SMG C1 (all dewats). The EX2 is going to be a bit harder to find I suspect.
