Now that these are out on the shelves, are they worth their retail price? ~860 for the Warfighter, and up to 1199 for the Archangel. I'm interested in them, but seeing their old direct pricing being 30-40% lower, I'm curious if anyone has any opinions on their value now that their price has mildly skyrocketed.

Yes. But Wolverine has stated that prices for their next SAM order is also going up. The one example they showed alluded to a ~40% price increase.

Just buy a Norc and $100 worth of aftermarket parts, then try your hand at smithing. You'll be money ahead and have a blast doing it. Spend the leftover coin on .45 to feed your new creation

Had a Norc NP29 for a while, (far too much of a fan of 9mm to bother with 45), liked the 1911 platform, but I'd rather start off with a nicer entry level 1911, then do some work. I'd rather put upgrades in a Subaru BRZ than a Chevy Cavalier, as an analogy.

Wow! that's quite the hike. My first reaction would be that at those prices the Phillipine 1911's have gone from being a really attractive value to just another entry level (sub $1,000) gun

I worked on a friends norinco, and there is no amount of smithing that would make it worth more if you spent the time on it.

Take two pieces of sandpaper and rub them together, thats about the quality of fit and feel you get.

Start with a quality base, if you want to build a 1911. Or have some serious metal working experience behind you before you start to tackle the fit.

Prices are up so much accross the board.
From what i've seen seraphim isn't bad. But they are still rather new, i don't know if i would put my money into their name and expect greatness yet

A few folk were certainly unhappy with the sticker shock. I myself was very, very excited to get my hands on a Seraphim Archangel. But now, at 1200 for the stainless model, I'm thinking I might just jump into something even better, since I'm basically at the price of higher end ones anyway.

Agreed!
I bought into springfield, some of best quality frames and slides vs $.
Stainless target loaded cost me 1350
7000+ rounds of hard use in ipsc in 7months has me a flawlessly running and still 100% lockup tension.
It runs so well, i've used flat nose 9mm 147's without hiccup. :)

I don't think that's a bad idea....lot's of great choices in 1911's when you get into the low/mid teens. I have a STI Trojan that I got at the Freedom Ventures Black Friday sale about a year and a half ago. Great value in my books.

I bought two stainless Thunderbolts from Wolverine and both were so bad I sent them back (not Wolverine's fault, BTW). All kinds of flaws including rough cut chambers, poorly fitted parts, etc. One even came pre-idiot scratched. I have three other earlier SAMs I bought from Wolverine that are great. Tight as a drum, well fit, dependable and none cost me over $600. It simply appears that SAM's quality control has gone in the toilet. Unless Seraphim has corrected that major issue I'd simply spend the extra $200-300 and get a quality made US gun.

A worrying sign was International Supplies, the Seraphim importer, received chrome Archangels that had marring or some flaws in the chrome. I think I'm off to look at some STI Trojans.

I bought and just received a 9mm Warfighter from Wholesale Sports. After taxes and shipping it was just under a grand, which I thought was a great price considering the pistols features and its competitors prices. I decided against a Norinco NP29 because I didn't want to gamble on getting a decent forged base pistol or a lemon with a ####ty trigger.

I've yet to take it to the range but it's overall finish and fitment is top notch. The blued finish is dark but not deep blue, almost like a dark parkerized color, consistent throughout the pistol. Basically zero slide rattle, very tight slide-to-frame fit. The beveled magwell and checkered front strap were a nice surprise considering the Wholesale Sports website doesn't advertise the pistol as being a "Gen 3", as noted on the Seraphim Armoury website.

I'm very happy with my purchase. Inside the pistol case is an envelope sealed with one of those melted wax seals, with a fleur-de-lis stamp, and inside is a thank-you note from SA. Pretty cool.

picture or it didn't happen.

If you want to " try before you buy" Seraphim will be at the Abbottsford Fish and Game Club on Saturday demoing their products, it's Abby's open house, so if you are in the lower mainland it's a good chance to have a look and throw a few rounds down range :)

SAM Thunderbolt Stainless for comparison.
ive been curious to see how the SA which comes from the same place with a different name on it compares.
