Huh... well...

I was checking up on my Serbu tonight to figure out why the extractor was slipping off the cases during extraction and causing malfunctions, I figured that it was just carboned up or really dirty...

I disassembled the bolt, which looked perfect on the exterior, and in doing this I noticed that the tab of the extractor that rides in the slot was broken, and barely even riding in the track still... just hanging on by a sliver of metal... which explains why the cases were slipping over the extractor.

Ouch. The gun only has about 450 rounds through it.

Quick phone call to Serbu, talked to one of the shop guys, who was super helpful and was on the jump about getting the parts sent out, and they are sending me another tomorrow via express post, so hopefully it doesn't get stuck up in customs.

Just an FYI for any other owners out there to be aware of this. I have never heard of it happening, but all the better to put the info out there for others to troubleshoot their own guns if similar problems arise.

Overall quite pleased with how the company dealt with the issue, I am sending my broken part back so they can do some testing to see what went wrong and why.

That's crappy hopefully you get the parts soon that's an expensive rifle ya have. What kind of scope do you run with it

Well that would certainly explain our issues this summer. A $5 part lol. Still an awesome rifle buddy. Some dink will likely chime in and say what a POS it is cuz of this!

Sure does explain it.

I meant to get to the rifle sooner, but life has a funny way of distracting my attention to other things lol.

i have a funny feeling that even at 1/2 price its to rich for my blood.

stumbled across your you tube vid of tha mag dump.. and then of your mom shooting it haha, thats bad ass

That is a pretty awesome pic!

Man, I need to figure out a get rich quick scam so I can get myself a serbu. I lust over these because I can't lust over M107's... wonder if it would be possible to make these look a little more like the M107? Needs the muzle brake and some bodywork done to the back.

Its just a baby rifle it's just making its theet ;) its bound ti have some growing pain. It suck for you .

The bugs might get work out by the time I can afford one in a couple of years (5 plus)

Kevin's Mom is bad ass!

I wonder if the broken extractor was due to increase extractor spring weight? Or do you believe it was cracked from the get go?

The gunsmith would have most likely have noticed the broken or cracked extractor when he swapped springs.

I believe that the extractor spring weight was actually decreased, but regardless the two springs are so vlose as to be almost identical. I can't feel any difference in compressive strength. Either way, I am sure my smith would have noticed the crack with the part out, it would be impossible to miss once the extractor was in hand.

Ramon, the guy I talked to yesterday, called again about 15 min ago saying they were just sending out a newer style replacement, made of a harder steel. Said I would notice a colour difference, but not to worry as it was just the harder steel they used. I already forgot what he said the steel was, I'll ask later.

Yeah if they improved the extractor they were having problems for sure! You should be good now I would order an extra one just in case.

You will have to bring the Serbu out one time we can try out muzzle accesories;-)

That's sort of the problem with a newer rifle with like that , that is relatively untested. Hard to put a tonne of ammo through that this as a torture test t 8 bucks a shot. We bought 200 rounds for a Ma Deuce we are going to shoot on Saturday ... $1600 , should last about 5 minutes ... maybe 3
