Found an old rusty side by side in my grandma's basement. She gave it to me so i want to get this sucker registered and then start restoring it. The only markings I can see on it are "W Richards" and "belgium".

Any idea where I can find the serial number?

Thanks
Evan

It may not have one. I have a .22 that did not have a serial # and when I registered it, they sent a sticker with the FIN for me to apply on the receiver. And that became the serial number.

Edit : It fell off the third time I cleaned my rifle. I asked for and got a new sticker. Again it fell off the next time I cleaned the rifle, despite the fact that I had thoroughly cleaned the metal surface before applying the sticker. So I engraved the FIN on the receiver and kept the old sticker with the registration card as proof.

On most Belgian guns the serial number is on the watertable.(the flat part of the action with the barrels off).

W. Richards -- Got one

I have one of those also, was my Great Grandfathers. Damascus barrel, exposed hammers, sidelock, very light weight. There's no ser # on mine either; when I registered it I was sent a sticky-tape with a number the registery made up. Was told to stick it on the frame. That just shows how brain dead those guys are; wash it once with solvent and their sticky tape is gone. If this gun was a shooter I would stamp the number on the water table.

The proof marks on the gun are the old Belgium ones for black powder.
Quite a keep sake.

on old doubles i have found serial numbers under the trigger guard, especially the ones that trail back under the tang area. Else under the foreend and even may be stamped into the wood itself.
