I would appreciate any help in getting a value on these two handguns. The first is a series 70 Colt 45ACP made in 1978 with the collet barrel bushing, which is in very good shape.

The second is an old model three screw Ruger Super Blackhawk 44MAG, which has never been converted with the transfer bar firing mechanism. The gun is also in pretty good shape, but not as good as the Colt.

I have to determine a fair price for the Colt, since even though it is registered to my name, it is not actually mine, since the original owner is deceased and now the person who was going to inherit the gun has decided that he does not want to go through the necessary steps of getting a restricted PAL, I now have either to sell it or buy it myself. The Super Blackhawk it a nice gun, but I will probably either sell or trade it for a short barrelled Blackhawk convertible in 45LC/25ACP or a stainless Blackhawk in 45LC.

That Colt is a pretty clean example, probably $800 , just sold a series 80 Gold Cup absolutely mint, with Ed Brown beaver safety, trigger job etc, took forever to get a grand for it. Maybe NAA can chime in.

search what you have in the EE and look for comparable prices/condition/age/model etc and start somwhere, then if it doesnt sell, lower it a bit the next week

On the Colt

On the Colt, better pics would help with a ballpark price. I can say from what I see that the beavertail, hammer, trigger and sites on slide are not original. Neither is the mag or grips. Ejection port looks like it's been relieved.

From the pic I'm looking at, the slide & frame finish appears different. The slide has a slight purplish tinge to it [you see this in refinished parts sometimes]. Maybe just the lighting/pic, though.

If it was an all original Series 70 unmessed with likely $1K or more ballpark.

Altered, as above, if the finish is original, then $750 - $850 ballpark.

Altered, as above, refinished, mismatch coloring, then maybe $750 tops, on a good day.

Clear pic of each side, well lit, to properly show overall finish, 800x600 pixels, would be better for an evaluation, though... ;)

NAA.

That Colt looks in good shape although it's had a fair bit of work done to it. Sights look like older Wilson's, trigger, hammer, grip safety, msh, grips have all been changed, the ejection port has been lowered and flared. I would say it would be closer to the $650.00 mark just because of the mod's done to it, but thats just me
