I know its a relatively niche training area, I know that you have to get qualifications, book range time, ect ect to teach a course, but so do the people doing the (R)PAL courses.

so why is there such a HUGE cost to this course, which basically amounts to how to draw from a holster, and these are the IPSC rules?

Typical course cost between $150.00 and $200.00. This included one year membership, $75.00, $25.00 for the course material and 12 to 16 hours of instructions... Sounds pretty reasonable to me....

DVC

I believe, $70 goes towards your first years memership fees, so the rest goes towards the instructors time, course material etc....turn out to be $100 or so for a weekend long course that you will probably learn a crapload from....pretty cheap really!

or shoot IDPA...$10 holster course.... we have IPSC guys that shoot with us a lot... when IPSC gets to expensive. If you're gripping about the cost of the course...... IPSC ain't gonna be your thing. The most money wins in that game.... sorry let me rephrase that.... you need money to be competitive! 8 mags hundreds and hundreds of rounds per go, if u dare show up with anything less than a $200 plus dollar ghost holster you're a bum! lmao...JK. IDPA just suits my budget better... and from what i've observed... more of a thinking man's game...compared to the run and gun IPSC.

Unless you are planning to shoot only small local matches the cost of the course is a small portion of what you will spend to participate in IPSC.

Ammunition, match fees, travel, equipment, training, more ammunition, ...

For most people IPSC is much less expensive than golf, not to mention recreational flying, boating, and anything involving fine shotguns, but there is still a price to pay to play.

The course is typically a one time expense, so think of it as $200 or so spread over all the IPSC matches you will shoot for the rest of your life.

But remember...those fishing vests that are required can get expensive :p

To the OP, the black badge does normally include the first years membership and is a full weekend of instruction on shooting and safety. Well worth the investment.

not nearly as expensive as those flashy "team" jerseys that ur not really a member of that team! lol. Unless you're all sponsored by STI?

No one has said "Are you serious" yet? The holster portion is like 5 seconds. Put it in, take it out, don't shoot yourself. The classroom portion is the IPSC rules. The two days of shooting is doing drills and learning how to shoot your gun properly. This is a shooting course, not a holster course. You meet the requirements, you move on, you don't you have to keep trying until you do or you don't pass. You are expected to be a seasoned shooter before you take this course, and not having just run out and bought all the required equipment the day before, and just got your first handgun a week before. And. It is NOT expensive as many people have pointed out. Very cheap for a weekend of learned shooting instruction.

course $60 UP TO $300. Ammo $250. Gear: pistol Sky's the limit. Holster up to $300. 6 Mag holders @ $25 each. 6 mags at $15 to $100 each.
So you walk in with $1500 to $3500 worth of gear and play IPSC.
Bite the bullet its is worth it!!

The expensive part is ammo, gas money...etc. The course is more than taking the gun out of your hikster. It is about how to do it properly and safely in a dynamic environment. Most applicants havenever moved from a static firing line before the course.

Hey easysauce. you will go over the rules, how to run and gun, when you can and cannot play with your gun, learnthe commands and most important learn to be SAFE. Its in your interest and all around you at the shoots to know you are skilled with the gun.

Also you do not have to be a seasoned vet with your gun. Had some people in my course who were new to shooting and this was a great way to learn shooting and safety and get exposure to the funnest game on earth!

Cheers

wow! talk about shjtting out the mouth.
8 mags- wrong! max stage is 32 rounds so 4 on the belt and 1 in the gun is perfect
$200 holster or a bum-wrong! Blade Tech works just fine in any division even open with their new ice model. Last level 3 at EESA, Standard overall was won using a Blade Tech without the drop and offset mount.
IDPA= thinking mans game- wrong! there is one way to shoot it and you are told how, not much thinking there. I shoot both, IDPA is far easier when it comes to analytical thinking.

I guess I am just spoiled by WRAS 3 gun, they train educate get you up to speed on the sports safety, but its included in the membership.

so after you pay the 200-250 for the BB you dont have to pay that years membership? what are match fees/round counts like? I can just start doing IPSC an you never have to repay for BB?
whats IDPA? same type of course of fire but different org? never heard of it around alberta

either way, I was interested in it for the extra pistol training alone since I havnt made it to front sight in vegas yet :p
