I just ordered a serpa holster for my new to me dominion arms 45 acp clone, according to Blackhawk model chart it should fit colt reg size and commander and all clones, well its not, my pistol is a commander size and it will not lock in the holster at all, too bad the holster look very well build, and I like the extra security to secure the pistol, just letting you gunsnutter know so you don't make the same mistake as I did.
 
Did you adjust the retention screw?
Please post a pic.

And not to insult your intelligence, did you check to see if a foreign object is in the holster?
I have seen all sorts of things get caught up in holsters that prevented proper insertion of a pistol.
including - packing peanuts, ear plugs, shipping spacers, cartridge casings, and even gloves.

Do yourself and everyone else a favour, and throw that piece of garbage in the garbage where it belongs.

There is a reason they have been banned by pretty much every instructor, LE, Mil, and training organization. They are not well made, they are very prone to failure, locking the gun into the holster, and the cause of multiple NDs.

Anyone who believes otherwise, is ill informed, and should be avoided at all costs. If you don't believe me, google it, and see for yourself.

Get a quality holster from Safariland or one of the local Canadian manufacturers.

Safariland is good stuff, but this info is not completely correct.


Many police services use the Serpa, but the level 3 retention for some reason... and they are still used my many military personnel.

First thing they tell you is to be aware of the design, and teach how to do safe drills.

The only people "Banned" from using them on training courses, or for competitive use, are people that cannot demonstrate proficiency.

These holsters have been given a bad rep, because of yahoos that are not properly using them.


They are retention tools, not speed draw competition holsters.

There is no point in debating this. The holster is garbage.

If you are fully aware, why defend it. It is banned from use by pretty much every instructor down in the US, and organizations like FLETC.

Just because some police departments and military still use it is not an endorsement.

I check and re-check, the problem is the pistol will not go in deep so the retaining latch will not engage and I have the commander model from norinco
 
If you just bought it, send it back for a refund.

If you can't, write it off to experience, and throw it away.

In any event, get something else.

I have spoken with one officer who got snow packed under the paddle after wrestling with a suspect on the ground, and he was unable to draw the pistol as the packed snow became a lump of ice that stopped the paddle from being depressed.

I have spoken with a soldier who had a similar issue overseas with a pebble stuck behind the paddle.

I have watched three of those holsters being ripped off the belt during retention training.

How do you demonstrate proficiency in that?

There is a huge list of very experienced instructors and organizations that have outright banned them (with a few limited exemptions for issued holsters), regardless of a person's "proficiency".

The design is flawed. It is about the only original idea to have come out of a company that made a name for itself stealing other company's ideas and having them made cheaper in the Far East.

Is your gun the NP27? I bought an IMI Defense holster and it wouldn’t lock in, because the trigger guard is squared off unlike most 1911s where it is rounded off. One of the multiple reasons I sold it.
 
Daver and MWL covered all aspects of the Serpa holster. I used one years ago when I transitioned from leather to plastic/Kydex type holsters. Even used it for competition then. I’m no operator so never abused the holster. It worked fine and as long as you use absolute trigger finger discipline, there were no issues. I even loved the click when you return a gun to it.
However, as I researched further into the topic and got more into action shooting, I realized that there were definite potential limitations to this holster. So many schools, courses, departments, and competitions ban them that there must be a fire behind the smoke. So I sold all mine and switched to good Level 1 holsters like SolCan, Alien Gear and Raven.

OP, please buy a good holster. It is a safety device. Don’t buy generic one size fits none, cheap nylon or corduroy types and don’t buy Fobus either.

This. I have been told that a holster for an Sti eagle/strikeeagle will work but due to the difficulty in finding one I have not tested this theory.
 
Watch tex grebner on you tube...he's the viral "I just fuc*ing shot myself!" . I still say it's ultimately the users fault if the have a ND with that holster the way he did. I have one of those holsters and they are cheap but has also worked fine for me recreationally. I accept the risk of using it but also purposely go slow in/out of the holster to avoid pulling a tex.
 
Huh, damn think how close to shooting myself in the leg I was the couple years I used a Serpa at the range lol. Oh wait, I forgot I was paying attention to where my trigger finger was when I drew from the holster and I wasn’t racing to reholster.

Is it the best holster out there? No. Is it fine for some casual range use? Sure. Be safe and pay attention, don’t spot yourself in the leg lol.

Did you adjust the tension? Because mine works with ALL 3 1911's I had. Some I gotta rock back for it to lock.
 
There are so many better choices( and safer) I see no reason for anyone to use or recommend using a Serpa holster. Get yourself a good, high quality retention holster and have fun
