service from Lebarons - good or bad? (buying firearms)

I don't buy from them as a rule because they have always been complete asses when I have been in thier gun shop. I only go in there (grudgingly) if a friend wants me to take a close look at something they are interested in. I have found the guys to be both rude and unwilling to go any further than minimally possible when answering questions or bringing something to you from the shelf (After you have waited for about 15 min. with no one else in the room). At least this is the case with the Toronto store.
I prefer Gagnons Sports, Ellwood Epps or Williams Arms for my neck of the woods. The prices are ususally lower than LeBarons, and the service is definitely better

X2 I always leave the Ottawa store swearing that it was the last time. Crappy service, never anything in stock...but good prices. Guess that makes me a whore :D

I keep going to the Ottawa store because when I call they put me on hold for "ever" or say they are too busy to take the call. Then I drive there and find out they don't have what I want.
But their prices for guns is almost unbeatable. I was going to buy a Rem 7600 from them this summer because no one could beat the price. On the off chance I dropped into a local dealer on the rte. 148. We haggled a little and the dealer beat the price.

Go with an independent but not necessarily local

I tried to buy a Rem 870 Express Camo Turkey from LeBaron's late last winter for turkey season. I knew just what I wanted, it was in their catalog, good price.

Long story short, none of the stores had any and they didnt know when they would, or when they might get more. They couldn't order me one, basically tried to sell me something for a lot more, but as for what was in their catalog, that is just fiction it seems.

My local gun shop was the same story. Didnt have any, claimed they didnt know what was coming in from Remington in the spring, or when or if they would ever get what I wanted. I'd just have to wait and see.

Called Epps. They got what I wanted, competitive price, knowledgeable help, arrived in plenty of time, and even though it is almost a 2 hour drive, I love going in there.

And therein lies the problem with just about anything gun related we need. It can be quite frustrating as a consumer with money to spend.

Unfortunately, we may have no choice as to where items are purchased. Find it and buy it.

I've had experience with two LeBaron stores. In both cases,
the guys working in the gun room were complete dicks.

"What you want!!" attitude. Very unfriendly, like they know it all.

Most of the time, they don't even know what rifles are listed in their catalogs.

If you know what you want, just point it in the catalog and maybe they
will give it to you.

I bought one rifle few months ago from LeBaron. The guy took it out
form the box, did the sweep of the whole store and gave it to me with
barrel pointing at another customer.

Anyway, if you know what you want, it is probably ok to buy in person.

I shop at the Montreal store, 9 out of 10 times they dont have the item I want which is in their catalogue. And god forbid they have the specific ammo you ask for, but they usually have the firearm I ask for but I find that you must be educated on the firearm before you go to the store cause they dont have to many answers for your questions.

I went to the Markham store a few weeks ago with a list of 24 items that I needed ranging from reloading to clothing. They had 2 of them in stock.
I had a list of 12 items two days ago, walked out with 4.

The other side.

LeBaron's isn't a real gun shop. It's more of a catalogue company. Like Lee Valley. The company is based on that premis. They don't even have computers to tell them of their inventory. It's all done the old fashion way by pen, paper and memory. The only way they are hooked up to each other is by telephone.
To their credit, I've seen some people showing up at the last minute befor their big hunt, and try to get kitted out with everything from guns to clothing, only to leave frustrated. Lebarons is located in major urban areas, and especially in the GTA area, there is a huge population of hunters with the same last minute idea. Not smart. You buy early enough before the season you won't be disappointed. That's one of the major rules of shopping. Ask any woman.
