Service Rifle Fitness

I hoping Sat / day 1 of SR went well for all of you. Shoot well for Match 2 tomorrow, unless you all did Match 2 today or maybe after supper. :D

Cheers,

Barney

It was an entirely different match that had 35 seconds rundowns with a single two shots exposure at each distance and a 10-15 second break before moving again. It was way too tight. There were only 3-4 shots total (for the entire line) getting off before the targets came down on most of the 400m rundowns. It was increased to 45 seconds for the 500m rundown, and then most were at least getting both shots off.

The matches will be going back to the same as last year, though.

So 45 seconds to run 100m, get into position and fire 2 shots? I'm thinking about practising on a soccer field sans rifle.

No, ORA is going back to 35 seconds, but with multiple exposures at each distance. 35 seconds isn't bad when you have more than 10-15 seconds rest between each distance. Most people got their shots off on the first exposure...

For OSA or NSCC matches, its 45 seconds on a yard range and 50 on a meter range to get to the next mound, get into position and fire two shots (2 shots each distance).

10 seconds is how long you are given in static snaps, to get into prone or kneeling position from standing alert. That gives you an idea of how much time you have to cross to the next mound. Allow a couple seconds to catch a few breaths.

The Roberts and Roupell cups. Start 100y back. Full kit including 17 lbd webbing before ammo, body armour, plates and gas mask(although we didn't wear masks in 2010). Sprint 100y and go prone on blacktop and fire two shots on a pop up figure 14 Huns head all in 25 seconds. Then carry on with a snapshoot between 1-300y. Much fun.

Shhhh! Somebody here might think that's a good idea. There is no way I could come close to competing in that match. 35s was too tight for me. It makes my head hurt just to think about it. So glad that as a civilian I don't have to carry a great deal of kit. Hats off to those of you who maintain your level of fitness and shooting skill to be able to.

One tight sprint isn't bad. After the 200m to 100m rundown, I was thinking: "oh, this isn't bad at all... plenty of time to spare!" But, it's the second, third and forth that get you when you do them one after the other without any rest in between.

Agreed. On match 3 when I got to the mound and down to my kneeling postion at 200, the targets decided to kneel too. LOL.

With match 4 and the longer time frames it was much better but there was a lot of metal "Oh f*ch, Oh #####, I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die" especially down to the 100.

You know, I was looking forward to exactly what you guys are crying about, but, even though my ass is pretty tight/awesome, I just don't think I'd have been able to hack it either, and, I'm not as great a shooter as a lot of you either, so, I'll concede that it's better we're going back to last years CoF.

Thanks for being the guinea pigs guys! See you for SRm2!
