I'm very interested to try Service Rifle (start with a clinic, would be best because I find the whole ORA thing confusing as heck). Getting to CFB Borden is just too far for me, with all of life's other responsibilities. Are there any opportunities to participate further east? Kingston would be AWESOME, but getting to Connaught is also do-able.

Parallel Q... is an M1A permitted for SR, or do I need to use 5.56?

ORA is not running SR outside of Borden this year.

Maybe see what is offered for Serivic-ish stuff with the NCRAA or through Milcun near Minden? No idea if Milcun are having SR events this year.

Edit - pretty much all ranges for SR include 308 / 7.62x51 in the safety template. Several folks try it with M1A platforms.

Minden's not much better than Borden, location wise. Looks like us guys east of the GTA are shut out of the ORA fun. :(

I'd love to be the guy to grab the bull by the horns and get it going in Kingston, but with a full-time job, seasonal business and 2 young kids it'd be overly optimistic to think I'd have time.

There are affordable accommodations just outside the base in Angus, if you can make a weekend of it. SR is well worth the drive.

It just depends on how far you want to travel. I'm lucky that I'm able to and willing to travel from Montreal to "play" at Borden. SR is currently only available at Borden so I'm forced to travel if I want to participate. TacticalTeacher runs CQB clinics and Precision Rifle events at Petawawa while not SR you can use your AR to shoot 100-600 yards in PR. He's got half a dozen events scheduled already. They are really well run and well attended. worth trying out for sure.

Woah Nellie! There are 4 SR matches booked at Ottawa this year with the ORA. Don't be spreading rumours of the demise of service rifle in our fair capital, because it's on!

I really enjoyed my trips to Connaught last summer, hate to see the civie side of SR fade out there.
Baron, if it does falter, there might be carpooling options with local guys to make the trek to Borden.
