In the winter the lakes could provide incredible long range shooting

The Old Pine Point Open Pit mines are a very good location for long range shooting I have found they are located East of Hay River Junction

Might not be the answer you're looking for but if you want access to military service rifle matches and get pay and ammo supplied give it some consideration.
Join the Canadian Rangers - 1 CRPG closest Patrol to you is 69 miles west of Yellowknife at the town of Rae Edzo. Sgt Frank Beaulieu is the Patrol Commander at Rae Edzo and can likely be found in the phone book. 1 CRPG is based out of Yellowknife so you would be pretty close to the action DP1 and DP2 opportunities et-al.
