Out of sheer boredom with the reliable FNS9L, I decided to try out running a raced out Glock and a raced out 1911 in 3 gun. The Glock is already done, but I thought I'd chat with you guys about the 1911. Because power factor isn't a thing in 3 gun, I decided to go for a single stack 9mm 1911 with 10 round mags: not really giving up anything on capacity to other guns, but it should be a heavier gun with a potentially better trigger. I bought a stainless Norinco NP29 with fiber optic sights and extended controls.

I think I'll need:
Trigger Job
Magwell
A pile of 10 round mags

I was briefly thinking of putting in a different trigger just to get something a bit nicer that can be fitted.
I can't put on a comp or red dot or I'll get bumped to open.

What are your opinions? What mods would you prioritize?

I'd do a trigger job for sure. Don't ever use a plastic trigger. They flex and bind giving inconsistent trigger pulls. I also think a red FO front sight and a magwell are a must.
MecGar mags worked well for me.
One more thing, My NP29 had poor locking lug engagement. I'd check that right away and get that fixed, IF needed.

My STI Trojan has a plastic trigger and it has worked just as well, all the time, as my other 1911s with aluminum triggers. Not to put too fine a point on it but car and motorcycle chassis at the highest level of competition are plastic - carbon fibre. Well engineered plastic gets the job done.

Great, took your suggestions and picked up the following from Brownells:

Brownells 10 round 9mm 1911 mags
Fusion Firearms K-hole Aluminum adjustable trigger
Fusion Firearms mainspring housing magwell

You will need to polish and de burr all sharp and mating surfaces and rails. Be careful to not be too aggressive as these are not Stainless; but are satin chrome. Spot the slide in by checking the slide for interference with a tracing agent like red lead or Prussian blue; then relieve any spots that are rubbing that should not be. Also, the feeding ramp. I break pistols in with die makers grease on the slides (basically Lithium grease); sticks and coats the metal and reduces friction.

Enjoy it and shoot the hell out of it!

The trigger will level out after about 300 - 1000 rounds; don't buy a bunch of stuff until it is cleaned up and broken in.

Let us know how you like that trigger. I have an np27 that's not so bad except the trigger isn't so great.

Yeah, the Brownells mags are just cheapies for proof of concept. If I end up using this all the time, I'll need better mags and I hear the Tripp ones are great.

Cool.

This guy has some really good videos about 1911 work that were really helpful when I tuned up my first 1911

If you want to see more from him just look at his uploads around the same time he posted that video.

I've got one of those fusion k hole triggers in my Norinco .45 and it is SWEET. The original bounced around in the trigger guard it was so loose, the fusion went in with very minimal fitting and doesn't wiggle around. The over travel adjustment is nice as well. If I'm not mistaken there are also tabs on the trigger bow to adjust for pre travel, I didn't play with those those.
