Setting up my MnP for IPSC

Rules are enforced differently between L1,L2 and L3, L4. When is the last time you saw a chrono or equipment check at an L1 or L2?

Chronographs are only mandatory at Lvl 4 and 5 matches. Only recommended at Lvl 2 and 3 matches.

Every match I have attended the equipment is checked, if not the RO's are not doing their job and maybe need a refresher course.

the slide lightening cuts. That's a big no no for production type pistols. That automatically will get you bumped to either standard or open regardless.

If your equipment does not qualify for the division you declared you do not get bumped into the next level up (ie production into standard), you go directly to open, do not pass go do not collect $200.

Malarky. being from Kitchener i assume you shoot at Guelph and Waterloo.I have never seen grip tape, stippling or trigger weight checked at those ranges.

I stand corrected. You are absolutely right about that. However, I have seen quite a few people with some seriously worked over Glocks that were in Standard. Any idea why that would be?

That all depends on what they have done. Many modifications are legal in Standard as long as it fits in the box. The obvious ones that are not are optics and compensator.

if they've modified the slide, added a magwell or done anything not approved by the rulebook, they'd declare Standard, and so long as it fits the box (which is seldom checked at level IIs, although it does happen), they are good to go. It's declaring Production and being caught with mods that gets you bumped to Open.

First, forget divisions. If you have to shoot open minor, don’t sweat it. Do it and have fun.
People get so caught up in gear races that they forget you’re the one pulling the trigger. YOU need to work on getting better.

Second, it’s 2022. Every pistol that doesn’t have a dot is just going slower than ones that do. So go ahead and get it milled by BlackBox. Go for the Trijicon footprint. That will let you run a Holosun if you’re on a budget, but still keep the door open if you want to run an SRO down the road. Both are great options.

The very best holsters for IPSC / USPSA are GX products. I run Hammer Armament. Some people run solely and gray fox. Don’t sweat the holster itself, but make sure you have a good hanger. Boss hangers are great. Hammer ones are great. DONT use teklok or anything like a Safariland UBL.
DO NOT GET A RACE HOLSTER. They have one good purpose only - real open guns.

Magwell is your choice but not a priority. Can’t help you with basepads for the weird M&P mags.

Have fun.

No, I'm not giving bad advice, I'm merely pointing out that at L1/L2 matches the equipment rules are less strictly enforced than at an L3, unless it's something blatantly in violation. For instance, extra texturing on a grip most likely would not get pointed out at an L1/L2, but definitely would at an L3.

However, pmt, in your case I'm sure an exception could be made to make sure every single detail of your equipment will be scrutinized down to the most minor of details. That way you can feel like you're not getting any "bad advice"

There is only one IPSC rules book and it should be enforced at all match level. Period.

Looks at belt, hmm, race holster for Production and Standard gun I use. Looks at match results with my iron sighted gun for the last season, hmmm bunch of combined wins (meaning them dots are going slower), hell even the pcc are going slower.
It's the shooter not the gun, mostly. Set your gun up the way you want, buy the gear you want, and go have fun.
