Tenda has phoned and apologized for the issue, I guess they depended on their supplier and this one slipped through.

They are arranging to have it picked up tomorrow and will send me the kind of rifle I should have got.

I will post pics when it comes in.


Well I received her and broke her Dow and am severely disappointed.

Please let me know if this is standard for "hand picked high quality"

Totally rusted hammer spring.
Rust on the extractor.
Stock looks like it was sanded but not re-laqured.
Looks like someone shot the crap out of it and didn't bother cleaning it.

FYI I have owned/handled a lot of military surplus rifles

When did you receive it - three hours ago? Here we are with two threads on the same topic! Too many drama queens here who act on their impulses, and don't even give vendors a chance to make it right before their mournful cry for support.
 
No, that is not normal. Other stores would let you know how bad the rifle is and sell it to you for $150 or less.
Some SKS come in to the country with a badly sanded, unfinished stock and a bit of rust here and there.
The bore is bad? This one should have a chrome lined bore, are you sure it isn't just coated with cosmoline?:confused:

Alright I'll wear the drama queen crown this time but when a retailer says

"Super grade" and "hand picked" are marketing terms used to justify higher prices. I've been burned on SKS' more than once with blatant misrepresentation. It's not illegal but its greasy. IMO no SKS should ever be called super grade. Maybe excellent condition but a clunky milsurp dropped into a lacquered floor board is not super grade.

There is one exactly like that at my local CT. I suspect they are captured from the recent civil war and that the Ukrainians shipped out for quick cash.
 
I would say the rust on the internal parts is total crap. I would also be upset by that. Everything else though, surplus is another word for used.

I bought a lee enfield bayonet on line once and it was way more beaten up then they described. I don't think I would buy a sks, mosin, or svt online just for the reason of they will send crap ones so they are not on the shelf.
 
Saw your post I would be pissed too and if any of these internet ninjas say they wouldn't be they just need to crawl back under the rock they came from I have owned several SkS rifles and none arrived looking like yours wow
 
Saw the post on the Vendor's sub-forum, and the pics.

You have a right to be upset. The vendor needs to "make things right". Things slip through the cracks even with the best vendors - it happens - but how they deal with it, that's what separates the good from the bad.

Let us know how it all turns out. If Tenda pulls through and makes it right, then all good, everyone ends up happy.
 
yommomma, it was your 4,415 th post on this forum and your first SKS ??? What took you this long to buy one. The poor rifle was waiting and waiting for you until it finally got rusty... :)
seriously though clearly, guns and rust are not compatible but when vendors deal with large quantities of surplus guns things like this can happen. I am not justifying tenda especially in the light of the quality claims made but give them a chance to fix this

I wouldn't mind seeing a few pics of what people got when they bought "super duper" Russian SKS refurbs. I was not expecting much for $200 but I was hoping to get a little better than what I got. I really don't mind armoury patches on the stock or miss matched numbers or dings/ scratches.
 
No pics of the internals, but I got this one a few years ago. Clean as a whistle inside and out, not a spec of rust anywhere. This pic is of it straight out of the box, before I "cleaned" it.

To be honest, not sure if you can get them in that good a shape anymore.

Ignore all the addon's in the picture but here is a "Refurb" that I got from a great local supplier last year.

Great condition, solid bluing everywhere not one bit of rust and the stock is run of the mill but pretty decent condition.

What you got sent.............is absolutely disgusting and it clearly was noticed by shipping department and still sent out..........


I got my rifle at Wanstalls but we know they all come from the same sources overall in this country so where I got mine doesn't really matter.

My rifle looked pretty much brand new other than the expected random dings in the stock.


Here is an older picture of an SKS Refurb I purchased a few years ago.........still looked brand new when I got that one and so has every SKS I've purchased.........the only rust bucket SKS's I've dealt with are ones people neglected after shooting endless corrosive and storing in a case with moisture for months on end.

I've never dealt with Tenda at all and actually this is first time I've heard of them but all I'm providing is images of "new refurb" SKS's I've bought for your insight.
 
OP has a right to be angry. That rifle would have been unacceptable for a "normal" grade rifle, let alone one that was allegedly a hand-selected example of the best...and he gets to pay to ship it back.

Hand-selected at Tenda apparently means someone used their hand to put it in a shipping box.
