The lower "lug" keeps falling off due to recoil so I removed it completely. (lug still in place in pic)
However, now there is too much barrel showing for my liking. If the barrel was cut down to an oal 14" it would stick out about 1.5-2" past the stock. (perfect!)

Question: is this legal to do this? (ie. cut the barrel down to 14" and have an oal of ~18"?)
The single shot Rossi shown in the picture is the factory config with pistol grip and oal of 22.5".

I'm not sure how single shot SGs are regulated.

Thanks

You cannot cut a barrel to less than 18". If you could find a shorter factory barrel you could use that, but if the OAL dropped below 26" it becomes restricted.

DO NOT CUT THE BARREL, if YOU cut the barrel shorter than 18.5" it's prohibited.

I had an 8.5" Dlask/Rem SG with an oal of >26" making it non-res. However, the >26" oal rule doesn't apply to my Rossi because its a single-shot (oal is 22.5" with pistol grip from factory).

I'm not clear on the rule for single shot bbl length and shortening (which a gunsmith would perform)

The 26" rule does not apply to the Rossi because it is factory.

The Dlask barrel was manufactured by Dlask at that lenght, not cut down.

The rules are for semi's or manual firearms, which includes single shot firearms.

A gunsmith cutting the barrel would be the same as if you cut the barrel, it becomes a prohibited firearm (and for that reason a gunsmith won't do it for you), you need to find a factory barrel or a barrel manufactured at the lenght you want.

I repeat DO NOT CUT THE BARREL (or allow anyone else to).

forbes/hutton...thanks for the info. I think its clear now.
A factory 14"bbl is my only answer to accomplish what I want. The chances of that happening is slim and none. So I'll have to get the lower lug fixed to stay on.
The old debate over the factory 8.5"Dlask/Rem SG with pistol grip pkg fogged my thoughts somewhat.
