Just got my Famae sg542, noticed what looks like a seam on my bolt carrier. Does anyone know if it is a finish blemish or a defect? Is it normal on these rifles? Want to know before it comes home with me. Thanks in advance for any help!!

It's a BCG, looks like it's a casting flaw, so could be just cosmetic, or paint.

BTW. Bolt is a chrome plated part inside BCG.

Thanks, edited my question to reflect your info.

Will this effect the function of the rifle? If it's cosmetic only I'm not co cerned about it.

No amount of advice online is equal to actual check by a gunsmith.

You have to make sure it is not a structural flaw in the metal. Ask the store which sold you the rifle to exchange it or make sure it is fine.

Gunsmith is coming in Wednesday. I actually work at the store, so if I need to contact our supplier that won't be a problem. Was just looking for input from guys who already have one to see if it's common or not. Thanks for the input!

Quite sure there is an older thread where this is brought up and it is common on almost all 542s. Mine has one as well.
