Hello all,

I’ve had my Shadow 2 OR for a while and I’m still learning lots (noob handgun shooter). I’ve kept the iron sights on it for now as I want to learn and become proficient with those first. I have the plate for the optics mount and a Burris red dot optic. My question is:

1. If I want to see what it’s like shooting with the red dot is it just a case of a few hex key turns to swap the optic and plate over instead of the iron sights and vice versa or should all this be loctited down and rezeroed every single time one or the other is installed? My question is really about ease of swapping from one to the other rather than installation details.

Do I need to invest in a torque screwdriver by the way for consistent installation?

It's a bit of work because when you want to remove the sight from the gun you have to removed the sight from the adaptor plate then the plate from the gun. Then reinstall your iron sight and vise versa. And yes you will have to rezero the optic sight after that. Though you may be able to get away without rezeroing the iron sights. A torque screw driver is nice to have but not necessary blue loctite is.

The shadow 2 or is made for having an optic, so I would just install the optic and be done with it.
 
I'm questioning that the optic would need re-zeroing. I put a plate on my NP22 and have removed the optic many times and it still hits bulleye at the range. At the close distances we shoot handguns, and the vast majority of error being from the operator, I doubt the slight misalignment from removing and re-installing either the optic plate or the sight plate would be identifiable on a target.

I also have a Shadow 2 OR, and the machining for the two plates is pretty decent. I have only shot it with the optics so far, as that is what I bought it for. Love the pistol with a red dot.
 
I have not used Loctite on mine, not a lot of rounds, never had a screw come loss, but if you shot a lot of competition, I could see it.
you want the screws tight, but don't over do it, most problems I see is over tight and stripped, broken screws, that is a big pita.

Have you gone backwards and forwards to iron sights/red dot optic without any issues? Zeroing?
 
I have not switched the colt , I did the Canik one time, as I had trouble with battery contact, I did not shoot it much, but it was close enough ,I don't remember adjusting it, but I may have.

I believe that the OR's in the States had both supplied, but here in Canada, we have to pay up to $90 extra (you can get them cheaper if you look around and they're not out of stock) to purchase the Extended Safety. Mine came with just the standard safety and I wondered the same question and so ended up purchasing the extended one.

Can't say I much care either way what the safety is like, but, showing an extended safety in the photos on the advertisement would lead one to believe you would be getting an extended safety. Mildly misleading, but so be it.
