It's been a while since I owned a CZ-85 and have dove into a Shadow that will potentially replace my Glock 17 for the IPSC season.
Questions to all the gurus that use the shadow:

- With the baseplate rule changed, what baseplates are you using if you're using oem cz mags? (Hobdell has 3 different types that work on the 10 rounders- are these even legal?)
- Should I look into different mags? Are the tanfoglios better by a margin?

- What mods? (I think it is common place to change out the hammer and mainspring to a 13lb, and potentially the recoil too, depending) Anything I'm missing?

- Can the mag release be switched from left to right?

Thanks all, guns coming soon!

Hammer spring I thought 15lb, recoil spring like an 11lb? Tan mags are better IMHO.

If you reload your own ammo, 11LB Recoil spring, 13LB Main Spring is all you need. I leave my OEM mags alone with the plastic base. Works fine.

Gun already comes with the competition hammer so no need to change that. Just the springs as above. Tanfoglio mags are all steel while the CZ have the polymer base. One is as good as the other IMHO, with a slight nod to the Tanfoglios.

A change in the grips to the Dennis Marshal thin grips and you should be there weight wise for IDPA as well as IPSC.

I'll be using handloads - Tried my left over match ammo for the Glock, and as expected they were light (123 PF) compared to the Glock (130 PF).
Good news is it ate them without a hitch so the recoil spring can stay for now.
So, just ordered:
13 lb main spring, Thin Alum grips & a Competition Hammer from Hobdell.

Maurice, one last question on the Tanfoglio mags:
Which ones are you using or would you recommend from Sean?

9& 40 & 45 Std mag ( Combat Sport) $41.00
9 & 40 chrome mag with pad (Stock) $49.44

Thanks!

I think they are the same, other than the chrome are much slicker and are more rust resistant than the blue. Get the chrome. ONe other reason to get the chrome is that sometimes the inside of the trigger bar may rub against the mag body, more noticeable in DA. I highly recommend the rubber base pads. I have some aluminum base pads, but they are more for show, and if you used the mags in another country (that does not have mag limits-although production is now either 10rds or 15rds) you might be able to get an extra round in the gun. I swore by the aluminum, but I prefer the rubber now as it gives some friction against the heel of your palm during a mag change. I have got almost all my mags from Sean. He sells the dimpled mags,...no laser cut.

So, you are saying, Sean's mags don't fall apart after banging them to the concrete?

I tried how the reload feels with tanfoglio rubberpadded mags and my shadow. I can say, it is a huge difference...

Not speaking for Sean, but the older dimpled and laser cut mags sometimes broke on the concrete if shooting indoors. I think all the mags Sean gets now only have the dimples,..NO laser cut. Last few orders of mags just had dimples and worked great.

Do the chrome ones come with a rubber pad or do you still have to put rubber ones on. Why are mags so feaking expensive? They are so outrageously priced! Not just these but all mags!

Sean's contact info, pls.

I would like to order some mags for my Shadow ... TIA.

The switching of the mag release from the left to the right side can be done, but the distributor recommends having it done by an armouror. I am sure there are a number of guys here that could tell you how to do it.

My guess is the screw is 'crimped' on both sides at factory after mag release spring is installed.

Freedom Ventures Link above ha: or my info in the Sigline.
Sorry, but I'm generally incommunicado until Monday.

100% Correct. No cuts anymore.

The screw is not crimped or at least it wsn't on mine. Switching the mag release to the right side is a five minute job. I am right handed and find it so much easier to use my trigger finger to engage the mag release rather than shifting the gun to use my strong hand thumb. You sure don't need a gunsmith to switch it.
