Shadow vs. Shadow 2

Hey guys. Question: Any point to upgrading to the Shadow 2 over a Shadow if you're not a competitor? I just want a solid 9mm handgun in this line but I don't know if it's worth dropping another 400 dollars just to get the newer version of this handgun. I'd much rather spend that extra money on pistol food and range time. That said, if there are any reasons that you think qualify for spending the extra cash, I would love to hear them.

Thanks in advance.

Ive owned both and own a Shadow 2 at the moment. They are both great but if your not into serious competition the original Shadow will serve you just fine.It seems that there are some really good deals on Shadow 1s,especially on the EE(probably people wanting to get the latest model).

The question is always this - is the Shadow 2 $400 better than the SP-01?

One thing that really bugs me on the Shadow 2 is the slide is an inverted V instead of squared off like any other pistol out there.

Why don't you buy a CZ 85 Combat. It will serve you better with the fully adjustable rear sight. I have it & i really love it. It respect the classic design of the serie CZ75. It cost you about $899.00. I don't understand why most of the people prefer their handguns without the fully adjustable rear sight for target shooting.

I had a shadowline , but preferred the Shadow 1.
Mostly due to looks:)
Yours looks more like the shadow line..

The shadow 2 has a more aggressive cut backstrap where it fits the mesh of your hand...for this reason, I prefer it over the original shadow. Double action trigger pull on the original was a stretch for me, so much so that I didn't like it

The Shadow should suit any target shooter's needs for a lifetime. You can change some springs and guide rods for a minimal improvement.

The Shadow 2 is an improved gun but if budget was a factor and I wasn't a competitive shooter I wouldn't bother.

Fit of course would be tantamount in my decision, it was easy for me as the S2 fits terribly and the S1 fits very well.

Starting from scratch, try to handle both and see which one fits your hands better.
I have both and extensively used original Shadows for the last 8 years in IPSC. It's a great pistol.

Being somewhat competitive, test-running Shadow 2 just because it's new. :p Time will tell but I don't feel any real improvement so far, except for some recoil reduction and adjustable sights. And no need for skateboard tape on grips! :)

Considering the total cost of ownership, the difference in price is less than a cost of 2k of factory ammo which is practically negligible if you plan to use it regularly.

Try 'em before you buy 'em ! ;)

I am in a very similar situation as the OP and a Shadow will be my next pistol purchase and trying to decide between the two. Does anyone know of a dealer in the Niagara area or within a reasonable drive that stocks both so I can handle them side by side to help my decision?

I own a Shadow and planned to sell it to get a Shadow 2. Gent brought a 2 to the range this summer; it was nice but the angled slide was a bugger to get hold of (I am a lefty and rack the slide to close). I had already put adjustable sights on my 1 so I saw no benefits over changing.

To those of you wanting to check out an original Shadow at a store to see how it fits, just remember that there are aftermarket grip panels you can use if the factory rubber grips don't work for you.

Popular choices are the thin aluminum grip panels, or VZ grip panels. I prefer the VZ because they have more of a palm swell. More contact = more control. I now have the 85C trigger so it helps with DA reach issues too. You don't need to go to this level of fit for basic bench shooting, but it's something to consider in action shooting sports like IPSC.

Bullseye in London has them both usually. I got to handle each one there.

For the record, re: those who spoke of grip and how it feels in the hand... they both felt great.

I have shot both side by side with same ammo. Shadow 2 is hands down the better pistol. Buy it. If you dont like it then sell it. But I am sure you will sell your Shadow instead. You will always be wondering if you dont.
