Shall I worry or be proud?

Hi out there!

Tons of useful information here. But as usual there is something else to ask.

Recently I came across a late production K-series Tula. By all the signs it is un-refurbished, and more so, unfired rifle. All matching numbers, original dark red laminated stock with inspection marks around cross-bolt (on both sides) and big Russian "Ф" on a right side. No primer ring on the bolt carrier face and a virgin-clean head of the gas rod. The only thing that refrain me from claiming the rifle "un-issued" is the apparent wear on a butt plate. Nothing special so far.

Now three things, which are quite trivial on its own, but rather unusual in combination.
1) gold bayonet,
2) dull bolt and bolt carrier,
3) butt plate has a lip at the top, which is more common for solid birch stock (mine is laminated).

What to think?

Thanks for your input!

I have a non refurb laminate "K" also, same features as you describe. The bolt and carrier are not polished, but not as dull as a Type 56. Matte gold bay and lip on the butt plate. SN TY5148K

These guns got tossed around in the crates a great deal and can shift a lot inside the crate. Enough that I think butt plate wear can occur from it. That being said, although I doubt mine was ever used, I won't claim unissued status on any of my SKSs. Made over 50 years ago in a secretive foreign land, I can't prove where its been, and neither can anyone else.

What year is this Tula? Can you post pics?

There's also a great sticky on this at the top of the forum. Take a look there.

Supposed to be 1958. I do not have pictures handy, but there is a bunch of similar stuff on the net. This is how bolt looks like exactly in comparison to a regular shiny one (posted by some member of this forum).

Bay and butt plate are nothing special to post pictures here. I just wondered how common it is to see all these three features together, or my rifle is sort of special.

No, it is not chinese or Sino-soviet. It just has dull, matte sort of finish on the bolt. Initially I did not like it, but now started to grow on it.

One of my '53 Izzies has a dull finish bolt exactly like a Type 56. Not common, but not unheard of. Your bolt may just not have been as highly polished as possible, and developed a little dullness while in storage.
