Sounds like a popular place..
Welcome. "Buying a share into a gun club"? What the heck? Tell us more about how this works. Every gun club I have been a member at just required a yearly membership fee. Is this place some kind of exclusive range like a fraternity or something?

Its been like that forever there, when you decide that you don,t want it anymore, at least you have something that you can sell, and recoup your expenses.Welcome. "Buying a share into a gun club"? See post #13. The shares required for membership entitle one to a share in the property on which the range sits. Share ownership funded the purchase of the land so that the club could be started and they've gone up from $250-ish when first issued to $7k+ recently.
OUCH! That is nuts!
There always seems to be someone on kijiji willing to sell a share. Be very very careful and ONLY go on Sat. mornings to the clubhouse to do the transaction. If they won't then it's a scam. There was a dude who was selling for $4K and I emailed and asked to meet on Sat to buy the share. Nada, nothing, zip. I already had one but was curious.
I've heard $10K being offered. The club is at risk of becoming a playtoy of the rich. There is talk about trying to help out the young shooters but it's all talk, the old boys who bought them for $250 back in the day are hoarding them even though I know for a fact 2 of these oldtimers are LOADED. I guess their kids will make out like bandits once these hoarders pass away.
The only positive is my son will be able to buy a subsidized share once he turns 21(or 22).
The law of supply and demand is driving the share prices. Sharon is arguably the club with the best all-round facilities in close proximity to Toronto. i think it is a good sign that interest in shooting sports is growing but costs and the difficulty in starting new clubs makes it impossible to keep up with the new shooters.
Areas outside of congested matropolitan areas will have an easier time matching supply and demand but unless land near the GTA suddenly becomes cheap it's not going to happen here with average detached homes going for $1.3 million.
