I live in Aurora Ontario. I am looking to buy a share into the Sharon Gun Club. If you or anyone you know may want to sell their share, please let me know.

The shares were sold to fund the purchase of the property and expansion of the grounds. Some clubs have an initiation fee as an ongoing means to the same end. Sharon does not.

There are essentially two entities involved at Sharon. The Sharon Recreational Properties Inc. is the corp made up of the 1600 shareholders. This is the body that owns the property outright. The second entity is the Sharon Gun Club. To be a full member of this club, you need to either own, or be assigned the voting rights to a share of SRP. The spouses and school aged children of shareholders can join as associate members with all the access and opportunities of shareholders, except they can't vote at the SRP AGM.

For 30 years the club had a slowly diminishing number of unsold shares, and former members or thier estates also had shares to sell to willing new buyers. Many of the founding members of the club owned multiple shares thinking ahead for thier kids and grandkids.

We finally reached a point where the club had no unissued shares to sell, so we are limited to shares that come available due to the death or disinterest of the shareholder.
 
May 12 2012 on the Notice Board - Sharon Share available for $3,000. Some have perhaps changed hands over $3K already.

Not surprised. Don't forget in addition to right of membership in an excellent gun club, you are also buying a piece of real estate. i.e. unlike a one time initiation fee, it is an investment and belongs to you. You will always get your money back + $$$. I see $5000 coming soon and I still think it is worth it. Should have bought a few more for the kids when I got mine.
