Sharps civil war era carbine

Okay guys, a friend is wanting to sell a Sharps carbine from (apparantly) the civil war era.
It was converted from paper cartridge/percussion to brass and firing pin by the Sharps factory. I believe it is either a 50/70 or 52/70
I haven't seen it yet, but I am told it is very good shape.
Anyone wanna have any idea what these things are going for these days?
I myself have no idea, I would have about 25 years ago!
Been out of the loop way to long.........

Well, I got the thing this morning, and let's just say it is in less than perfect shape!
Chip out of the buttstock, a few inlays added as well, and the ring slide is broken on one end and would need restoring.
I'll likely put it into the exchange for LESS than $1,500!

Those that wish can squabble about how much it is worth ( or not!)
The fella that owns this carbine has decided not to sell it, but rather keep it , so I feel that it is alright to talk it up here and discuss exactly how much people figure it is worth to them.
I know i turned down an original percussion Sharps in 1980 for $350 - STOOPID me ,I was looking for a rifle!!

I sold a minty one of these for $600....

Of course, that was thirty years ago.



If I had yours, I think I'd keep it for the action and rebuild it with a new barrel, wood etc.

well theres one on GB with a $1595 Starting bid that still has all the Patent dates and markings on the side plates ect,
tho its abit beat up its compleat and not Busted and in need of Welding.
has a great bore.
Theres other Sharps on GB that are $4000 and Up but they just sit there with no Bids.

Ive seen 4 sell in the last year on US Auctions that went from $1300 to $1900 but they were compleat guns in OK condition some were very nice.
Im talking Sharps that are converted to 50 70 Cartridge.
