xmp 5744 is a good powder, under a 405 lyman plain base bullet i get you can get around a 1inch group at 100 yds, i have used unique and polyester,filler for some plinker loads 1150 fps, works o.k. but all b.s. aside you must learn to shoot and clean black to get the best from your sharps, i use 75 grs of 2ffg goex under a 535 postell bullet nothing smokeless will out shoot that in my 45/90 shiloh 74 ,,,wade

I have used 24gr 2400 with a 425gr saeco bullet cast 20 : 1 in my rolling block for 15 - 20 yrs. Absolutely nothing I've heard of shoots better in 45 - 70.
