Sharps Shiloh 45/90

I have a line on an 1874 45/90. Any pros and cons of this caliber. I would only be using it for under 250 yards at the range and for hunting deer.

Likely a reloader's rifle/cartridge only. Expensive to play with too. Shooter's Choice, in Waterloo, Ontario, carries formed Bertram brass at $49.95 per 20.

mac they are the same as the 45-70 with just a tad more whollop as they hold approx 20 GRNs more of Black.
How heavy is this smoke pole?

Years ago I had a Shilo #1 Sporting rifle in the 45 2 4/10 (aka 45-90). It came with dies but no brass. In those days you could order and brass from the US with no issues...not now.
Anyway, the gun was an earlier Framlingham(I think the spelling is pretty close though may be wrong) built gun. It had shallower rifling then later guns and needed avery hard cast bullet in order to perform. I tried FFg with no filler and with corn meal filler, then went Fg using a 24 inch drop tube. It turned out the Fg worked the best and was most consistant. It generally was a goo dshooter and placed in the top three in the first 10 matches I shot it in. After that I saw no sense keeping a $1500 gun(at that time) for just a few shoots a year. It turned into a Springfield Armory 1911 45 acp ca 1914.
It will do a great job on deer out to that range, keep running it with Black powder only and it will last you a lifetime.
