People make lamps, chandeliers, dog chews, cane handles, attach them to resin deer skulls to hang on the wall, hell, I've seen people use them to make toilet paper/paper towel holders.

Or sell them.

On the topic. Big bull Elk drop their horns much earlier than smaller bulls and away from the cow herds. Big Elk horns are often found in pairs and since the big bulls hang out together, multiple sets can often be found in a small area over the course of a week.

Smaller bulls drop weeks later than the big bulls and they hang out with the cows. These horns are often found singly over a wide area.

Both Elk and Wapiti are misnomers for this animal.

Yeah, sorry, it doesn't work that way. The accepted common name for an animal is definitely not a literal translation of the Latin nomenclature. Does anyone hunt Virginia Deer or American Antelope-goats? I doubt it...but Whitetails and Pronghorns are popular game animals. Check the Latin name for those.
 
No such thing as a Canadian Stag and and if there was, he would have antlers not horns. Sorry Mig but you're he odd one here.

Elk is in fact the English name for the Moose. Wapiti is the Mountain Goat. Both are a misnomer when applied to the Canada or Carolina Stag or La Biche or Waskisew.

Good Lord, man...you defend the use of "horns" rather than "antlers", despite the fact that it is the wrong word, with a completely different definition. Not opinion, just plain fact. Read the dictionary.Now, Alces alces may be correctly termed "Elk" in Scandinavian countries...it's a common name, nothing more, so calling it a Moose in one part of the world and an Elk in another isn't surprising. But here you go calling the North American use of the word incorrect? You want the "English" name for a critter that doesn't exist in England?

The English term for the Loon is "Diver"...does that mean we're all wrong when we call this iconic Canadian bird a Loon?
 
Horns is a commonly used and understood, while technically incorrect, term for antlers. It is certainly accepted but incorrect to call Cervus Canadensis either Elk or Wapiti.
