Sheep Changes Coming

f:P:

Well I sure as heck hope there are guys that can negotiate the mine field of horse sheet to find those facts. Cause just as sure as that sheet stinks, its not likely to come from government, particularly if they derive a economic agenda.

They've promised it for early March...guess we will see.

Absolutely it wasn't me and as I wasn't a delegate I couldn't speak at the mic but I suspect you knew that.

no we heard you say that at the back of the room - you were standing right beside our table. Several other delegates heard it as well.

I'd rather have tinfoil and conviction than blow like a shopping bag in the wind

Not at all, they were the one that brought it to AGMAG as a proposed regulation change.

And APOS had a virtually identical proposal for Elk Management Strategies back in 2010... apparently, to benefit Alberta resident hunters. You didn't know about this?

To be fair, I don't have a clue what the APOS position on bow hunting was. To the best of my recollection it was not part of the strategy or discussion.

Edit: Still looking for the APOS paper but I am quite certain it was titled "Southern Habitat and Elk Management Proposal"

Some great rams showing up the past couple years in K-Country. They killed the Minister's Special Licence ram there last week...what a hog and 14 years old to boot!

I think they've always been there. Ministers tag looking other places than Cadomin and a late season rut draw just makes these big, old park rams more visible to a lucky few hunters.

No doubt...I was more referring to the the high number of big rams taken overall during the past couple years. Just had a couple more photos of Kcountry rams sent to me that were taken in 2014....impressive stuff. There have been four MSL rams that I know of taken in Kcountry in the past few years both by residents and non-residents and one in 400. I don't think Cadomin is as popular as it once was.

Minister special licenses aren't anywhere near the same realm - big rams exist in all protected/ park areas and come out after the typical season.

Maybe we should cut out the MSL - sounds like it is tough on mature rams in areas they previously survived.

I have thought there should be no MSL for years. But, it's all about money.

Money for wildlife conservation is never good.f:P:

Oh, to use your often used statement," don't put words in my mouth. I didn't say that" boo hoo.
Do you think the money could come from somewhere else other than a "paid" hunt. Maybe charge way more for non-res tags, or maybe charge way more for non-res fishing licences.
Oops, I guess a tunnel visioned, fence sitter wouldn't open his feeble mind to new ideas.

Licence fees go into general revenue.....it's a nice dream but do you think Jim and Danielle would funnel it elsewhere? Not likely. This money goes directly to conservation projects without the greedy Conrose party getting their hands on it. If being skeptical about politicians spending money wisely makes me a tunnel visioned, fence sitter...call me guilty.

Guido's ideas have merit - but we would need to change the funding mechanism away from general revenue. The minister's tag wouldn't be nearly as palatable to most if it wasn't for the "habitat" hook. I think it is something that should go.

To kill a giant Ram in a season not offered to others and during a time of zero competition negates the "trophy" aspect as well. Even I could get a crack at a good ram under those circumstances lol

Guido they should charge way more for all the fishing licences, the topic of fisheries management in Alberta could make a "he said, he said" thread twice as long as this one...

I can assure you guys 408 has rams, but I have yet to see any of trophy quality
