The Chadwick Ram was shot with a 404 Jeffery!

Maybe....who actually killed the Chadwick ram is certainly open to speculation and by Chadwick's own admission, he and Roy Hargraves fired multiple times at the ram and it was Hargraves that actually went up the mountain and finished off the grand ram. Chadwick was only certain of one hit low in the brisket. I just came into possession of a copy of the original Chadwick diary that had remained undiscovered until a couple years ago and it makes for some very interesting reading......quite the treasure!

The special stories regarding these number one heads is amusing. In 1949 E.C. Haase got the number one goat, near Smithers, BC.
Big feature story in Outdoor Life Magazine, culminating in a one shot kill. Then the guide got talking to the game department and I was in on the story. Mr. Haase emptied his magazine at the goat, which kept on going. At this stage the guide got a little vague, because at that time all guides were prohibited by law, from carryong a rifle while guiding. However, the guide said something about "helping" to get the goat!

I'm sure most hunting stories leave out a few details but Chadwick has never claimed a one shot kill or that he was the only shooter. I'm sure the story has been romanticized by writers of the story, not Chadwick. His diary is pretty frank about what he was and wasn't capable of and likely a pretty accurate account of the trip.

LOL I dont pretend to attempt 500 yard shots. well, except for that time .... Im just a guy who, until this year,:pirate: used an old 30-06 with crappy tire ammo and an old beater truck.
.270 WSM is pretty close to perfect in terms of performance, but the .260 Rem or 7mm-08 do 99% of what you need a sheep round to do, and do it with a shorter barrel and more rounds in the magazine.

I guess the .270 WSM would cover the 1% of the time when you need to reach out at 500 yards and the sheep is wearing a vest.

Thanks blar but Im not a fan of the 700. I just like the Sako-weatherby stocks especially around the handle. I have ordered another Sako 85 Hunter 7mm but in stainless as part of a trade for flotsam and jetsom. I need to clean out my safes for Sharps that I have ordered. I wish that I had built a bigger house now and am too lazy to move and wouldnt find a spot like this.
