I’ve personally never heard of using a rubber band. Does it hold the shell in the action so it doesn’t fly out? Just curious how it works.

The rubber band acts only as a deflector but does not capture the hull.
It should serve to keep your neighbor from getting pelted, but won’t help if you want to keep your empties.
You’ll need the wire style for that (and which still does not work for Doubles).
