Hello all. My first post in this forum. I just discovered something I thought I'd pass along. You cannot use Lee shellholders in the RCBS hand primer. They don't fit because the taper on the inside is different. Have to use RCBS shell holders. I haven't tried other brands. There is no mention of this in the instructions which come with the hand primer

You can't even use Lee press shell holders in the Lee hand primer. The primer tool has a flat base, the press doesn't. But I still use them as it was the best deal at the time!

Take some fine sand paper and wear down the plastic nubbin that the holder fits on. It won't take much, did mine years ago, works great.

The hole in the Lee shellholder is undersized by something like 0.2mm. I hone them out with a Dremel and an abrasive rubber tip. It takes about two minutes. I don't like removing material from the plastic because it is pretty thin and soft to begin with.

when i bought my RCBS hand primer, i found out: lyman, hornady, and even some RCBS shellholders from the late 70's and early 80's also do not fit. i tried drilling them out and chamfering them. but the steel was too hard.

My older Lee shell holders dont fit well either, you got to really cram them on. I just bought a new Lee #2 to keep on the RCBS primer tool and the chamfer is larger, thus fits. Looks like they have changed them a bit. :)

When I first got the reloading supplies I did not realize that there was a difference between the two shell holders... so I just forced it on to the plastic on the RCBS hand primer. The first two or three times it nearly killed me to get the plastic out of the handle (putting it in was easier than taking it out) but now it is absolutely no problem. It was probably a month after I first did that I read about the slight difference between the two brands. Perhaps not the method of mounting a lee holder to the RCBS that I would recommend, but through ignorance it has worked for me.
